The best thing about making an outdoor mural is that you have to wait for the weather to get good. I was on the edge of my seat throughout this long winter constantly checking when the sun would come out. Let me tell y’all, it was worth the wait.

Working with Mike at @sunshinegrillnj and @dominiques_digital_gallery was one of the most seamless art experiences I have ever had. Working outside, meeting all the kind and encouraging people in the neighborhood and being right next to (no exaggeration) the best grill in New Jersey made this experience unforgettable.

Thank you @sunshinegrillnj for this incredible opportunity.

P.S. The music notes are real notes to a secret song…. Any guesses? taken in Sunshine Grill by @sollllena

The “Our Place” mural was my first ever mural and I am so lucky to have been able to create it with the community. The elementary scholars painted their personal butterflies at the bottom, middle school scholars helped me with the main shapes, and high school scholars helped me block in the people. Safety, maintenance and teaching staff also helped me in between their breaks and it was so lovely to watch them all turn a blank wall into one of story and vibrancy!

We know that where a child grows up has a lasting impact on them so I wanted the community to know they have a say in what their environment looks like. When we nurture our community, that care in turn nurtures us and our own development.

This project took me a year to complete and I learned so much in the process. I hope to continue creating accessible art for everyone to experience and participate in. 🌞❤️
