Hi Friends! (SOLmates? 😂)

We're so excited to release our first (of *hopefully* many) animated shorts to help explain a number of concepts in a quick, consumable, visual way. This first one explains the primary concept behind our Performance Mixes, and why they work better indoors than traditional potting mixes. Spoiler alert, traditional potting mixes weren't actually designed for indoor conditions, more so repurposed outdoor or greenhouse grower mixes and marketed them for indoor use (completely different conditions, i.e. - those are ideal growing conditions; your kitchen isn't).

Our amazing illustrator @megantegeder is a MN local artist and has done a ton of great work for our friend Jessie @tonkadale over the years. (Nice find Jessie!)

Let us know if you like this new format or tweaks we should consider to make them more impactful. If there's something you wish we could boil down and make easier to understand for new and seasoned plant parents alike when it comes to plant care, we're going to start documenting your ideas from emails, website live chats, IG DMs, comments, etc. for future videos!

Grow Happy Plants!

We love hearing where Sol Soils ends up... especially when it’s close to home. Barb found us at an independent shop in Crystal Lake, IL, just a short trip from where our mixes are blended in northern Chicagoland. 🪴

It’s always confusing when someone asks us where we’re based. I now live in Culver City in LA, Leah is in Maple Grove in MN (near where we started in DT Minneapolis), our partner blends and packs everything near Chicago, and we warehouse and ship everything from Indiana. Thank god for remote work, amirite?

Made in the Midwest. Found locally in all 50 states across over 5000 retailers. Loved by plant people. 🌱 by @solsoils

A little blank space = room for one more. 🌵

Nestled this Astrophytum into my Chenille Plant planter, gave it a little Necessary Nutrients + Repot Recovery, and back to the collection it goes.

I pot up multiple plants into the same planters because they look more interesting and natural together, and tbh I get lazy sometimes with my collection which makes watering faster hitting multiple at once. lol There are also benefits of doing this as the Sol Biotics products have microbes that help multple plants share resources and communicate under the soil. Now these two can work together. :)

Sometimes the smallest repots are the most satisfying. 🌱 by @solsoils

Good growth starts with good nutrition. 🌱

Necessary Nutrients is our all-natural, everyday plant food, giving your plants what they need to keep growing, flowering, and putting out healthy new leaves.

A simple 6-3-3 NPK formula keeps your plants fed and thriving over time. 🪴

*Note - The beauty of organic products is they don’t force-feed your plant like a synthetic fertilizer does when the plant isn’t hungry. This means you can over do it a bit by accident or fertilize through all seasons—including winter—without risking killing your plant by burning it. by @solsoils

Bird of Paradise plants don’t always show stress when they need repotting. Sometimes, they just run out of room.

Circling roots, fast-drying soil, and slower growth are signs it’s time to size up.

Choose a pot just 2 inches larger and refresh the soil to give roots room to grow.

Every plant collection needs a head of security. 🌱🐈
@hanktheragdoll

Hank takes his role very seriously. 🐾 If I’m ever inspecting a plant up close, he’ll usually be found right behind me or next to me trying to see what I’m doing with the plant. So I guess we end up doing our plant chores together. by @solsoils

I’m so grateful for all of the opportunities God continues to bless me with.

I’m especially thankful for the opportunity to pour into the next generation through this kids’ plant workshop with Brown Toy Box, and incredibly grateful to Sol Soils for sponsoring the soil for these workshops.

God has been doing some amazing things in my life, opening doors and creating opportunities I never could have imagined. I’m just grateful to be in a position to do what I love, connect with my community, and make an impact along the way.

I can’t wait to see what else He has in store for me. This is only the beginning.
