It all starts with my ink drawings on vellum, then into the darkroom to burn a screen. Once a silkscreen is made we can print it in many ways, layering and changing colors of water based ink. This fabric printed by my partner has 2 layers of screenprints, it will be sewn by a friend into headbands soon !! by @solsticehandmade

A peek at the process on Wall St 🧡 I’ve had a magical week painting and chatting with folks, and even enjoying music everyday at lunchbox live. The morels might be my favorite part! I had fun mixing colors to match the way they hold light and glow in the leaves

The final piece of Fabric of Downtown is a quilt made by our community.

This summer, community members joined artist Dayna Walton at the Wall Street Steps Mural celebration to paint barn quilt panels, each inspired by the leaves of Downtown’s own trees. Barn quilts are a traditional folk art, usually found along rural trails. On Wall Street, they became a piece painted by the people who use the street every day.

The quilts are on view for the next few months. Stop by and visit the installation on Wall Street on @slavaasheville find your favorite leaf, and enjoy one of the most artistic little areas of Downtown.

Thank you to Dayna Walton @solsticehandmade, everyone who painted a panel, Slava Bakery, Leslie and Associates the property owner who welcomed the installation.
