Hong Kong’s skyline, as overwhelming as nature itself.
Perhaps the ultimate peak of urban aesthetics. It’s no wonder this city has been a motif for so many legendary films.

DMZ Rock Festival and Goseokjeong, Cheorwon
Feels like just the other day, but it was two years ago. Time really flies.
Great weather, beautiful scenery, and such an easy trip. A happy festival weekend.

📍Goseokjeong, Cheorwon, Gangwon, Korea 🇰🇷

The rock standing alone in the middle of the river is Goseok, which means “solitary stone,” and the pavilion built beside it is Goseokjeong. I took this photo from that very pavilion.

There’s a legend attached to the rock: the outlaw Im Kkeokjeong is said to have hidden inside a crevice in it. Supposedly he even turned into a fish whenever government troops came for him (?!).

The original wooden pavilion was built during the Silla Dynasty, under King Jinpyeong, but it burned down in the Korean War and was rebuilt. Such a shame.

The pavilion, the rock, and the gorge come together to make a stunning scene. If you’re ever in Cheorwon, stop by! You can take a boat ride too

The weather was just perfect.

DMZ Peace Train Music Festival

The full name is the DMZ Peace Train Music Festival. DMZ stands for the Demilitarized Zone, the buffer strip between South and North Korea, and Cheorwon sits right up against it. So it really is a festival that wishes for peace.

Also had a makgeolli slushie. So damn good
Makgeolli is a traditional Korean rice wine.

I mainly went to see Silica Gel. Their set was so good 🥹
But I saw Snake Chicken Soup and Cadejo there too and became a fan of both. Hanroro played as well, and I was disappointed to miss her that time. But I caught her later at Burak and became a fan of her too.

The town was so pretty that even the walk from the parking lot was lovely.

Fjaðrárgljúfur, a canyon carved by glacial meltwater over 2 million years.

Water from melting glaciers slowly cut through the volcanic bedrock, and the moss-covered cliffs create a landscape unlike anywhere else. It’s said to be completely lush and green in summer, but visiting in December, we got a mix of moss, dried grass, and gray rock.

We arrived at sunset, so the canyon was tinged with orange light on top of it all. The trail is well maintained, so it’s an easy walk. Go deeper in and you’ll even find a frozen waterfall.

It wasn’t originally on our itinerary. We only stopped by because it was close to our accommodation, but the canyon was so grand and stunning that we all agreed it was worth the detour. Still can’t memorize the name though 🥹

It’s about a 10-minute drive from the town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur, so it’s a great stop if you’re staying there. Apparently Justin Bieber shot a music video here, which I only just found out. Highly recommend adding this to any South Iceland itinerary!

Inside the Colosseum, Built About 1,900 Years Ago.

A massive structure that held 50,000 spectators, with underground passages where gladiators once walked. History was preserved so vividly it felt surreal. I was in awe that humans built something this grand back then, yet thinking of the victims behind the games made it feel cruel too. A place that left me with mixed feelings.

And in the middle of all that, I caught myself geeking out over the Colosseum fight scene from the movie Jumper…

Rome feels completely different from other cities. The whole city is basically an archaeological site. Everywhere you look, it’s a few thousand years old, so it felt like time flows differently here.

Just wandering around alone was enough to imagine life as an ancient Roman. The whole city has that atmosphere. So I even dressed like a local, a small satisfaction only I would know about.
