Wow. This is harsh! No sugar coating here. Iranian WWII orphans have to find a way to live and a person to protect them after their parents die. They offer to trade knowledge for food and shelter (hence the teaching bit). While they look for someone willing to accept their trade they meet a Holocaust camp survivor and a Russian spy who is chasing him. I was thinking of this for summer reading but honestly if I'm shook by it - as an adult - I'm not going to recommend it for my 12 year old students. I also don't like the author's portrayal of the camp survivor. Very suss. #takeitorleaveit 🤷‍♀️ by @sommer.reading

I had really high hopes for this one, a YA graphic novel about censorship featuring book bans in Chicago public schools. Honestly it was too long and the story didn't gel. Wes and Aoiffe were two main characters talking about the same censored book (Persepolis) from perspectives so different they could have been their own book. (Should have been their own book.) Also the illustrations were boring. Flat colors and characters so devoid of detail it was hard to tell who was who. #takeitorleaveit 🤷‍♀️ #sommerreading 📚 by @sommer.reading

Idea Stolen from @sandersonmediacenter I'm giving our zero checkouts since 2008 a chance before they get kicked out of the library! #sommerreading 📚 #middleschoollibrary ♥️ by @sommer.reading

WTF DID I JUST WATCH?! Not a book but a damned good story. I'm going to try not to give anything away but there is this dude who had a really rough life and is now apparently a little bit cuckoo. He has some wild beliefs about earth being invaded by outer space creatures. He loops his cousin into this belief. Cousin has some diminished thought capacity so it's kind of easy to lead him along and they end up kidnapping a lady because they believe that she is an alien and it is holy crap THE wildest ride and I loved every freaking minute of it. You gotta watch it. Great story. #sommerreading 📚 #watchit 🙌 by @sommer.reading

Thank you, Biederman, for immediately putting me to sleep every night. 🥱💤🛌 Oh gawd this book was horrid. So boring. Tried so hard to be a family epic but was a disaster from start to finish. Maybe we can blame the translator? This one will be recycled instead of donated. 🫣 #avoidEntirely 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎 #sommerreading 📚 by @sommer.reading

YA Mystery. Kaylani's dad is in jail and he and her mom send her to Martha's Vineyard for the summer to get her mind off of things and have a bougie summer. HOWEVER. Kaylani notices things. And things on the island just aren't adding up. When a kid gets murdered she goes into full Nancy Drew mode and ..... Can't tell ya. You must #readit 🙌 #sommerreading 📚 by @sommer.reading
