Watch the first layers of my lemon challenge piece! 🍋✨🦋

My initial plan was to paint Papilio machaon, but watercolor always has a mind of its own! While trying to build up contrast and depth, the layers took me down a completely different path.

Go watch the end of the video! Do you want me to share Part 2 showing how I built the rest of the details and textured? Let me know in the comments! 👇🏻💛💚

🍋 Lemons and an unexpected visitor 🦋 Botanical 2 group of the Artcollabfamily

For this "lemons" illustration challenge, I wanted to go beyond just the fruit and leaves, so I decided to add a touch of wildlife. My initial plan was to paint a Papilio machaon, but watercolor always has a mind of its own! While trying to build up contrast and depth, the layers took me down a completely different path.
In the end, it turned into a beautiful, fantasy-like hybrid butterfly. Its deep, warm tones actually make the yellow of the lemon pop so much more!

What do you think of how it turned out? Do you prefer pure botanical pieces, or do you like adding a little bit of fauna to the mix?
Let me know in the comments! 👇✨

Behind the process: My Common Kingfisher 💙🌿

After sharing our beautiful international collaboration yesterday, I wanted to show you a closer look at how my piece came to life.
For me, the most magical moment is always painting the eye—that’s exactly when the bird starts to breathe on the paper. In this carousel, you can follow the journey from the very first pencil sketch to the final details of its vibrant plumage.
I’ve also included my color tests! For the bright blues and rich oranges, I mixed some of my favorite pigments like Phthalo Turquoise, Aussie Red Gold, and Moonglow to capture that natural metallic sheen.
Do you enjoy seeing the raw process behind a painting, or do you prefer just the final result? Let’s chat in the comments! 👇

What happens when 5 nature art lovers from different corners of the world come together?
Pure magic on paper!💙

We might not share the same time zone, but we share something much stronger: our fascination with capturing nature through our art.

Today, we’ve gathered virtually to pay tribute to the kingfisher, a beautiful symbol of patience, focus, and freedom. We love the idea that while these birds travel freely across the planet, completely unaware of borders, we are connecting through creativity to break any distance.

Five unique perspectives, five different styles, and one shared love for nature illustration.

We loved working together on this! Did you enjoy our international collaboration?

What bird or theme should we create next?

*Non finito.*
A portrait unfinished, much like a journey still unfolding.

The red kite, with its graceful wings and wandering spirit, reminds us that beauty is not always found in the destination, but in the journey itself.
A little tribute to the wild travellers of our skies. 🪶

ARTCOLLABFAMILY | ANIMAL GROUP | FALLFUNGIMADNESS26

A dead tree becomes a home. 🌲🍄🪲
When a tree dies, its story doesn't end.
Fomitopsis pinicola helps break down the wood, returning nutrients to the forest and creating new opportunities for life.
Hidden among its pores lives Gyrophaena boleti — a tiny beetle whose larvae and adults feed and develop in the fruiting bodies of the fungus.
What looks like decay from afar can be a whole world up close. 💚
One dead tree. One fungus. A world of life.

GRAN CANARIA BLUE CHAFFINCH for BIRD COLLAB: 1 Theme & 11 Artists – September's theme is "National Birds"

Look closely. This little blue bird belongs to just one place on Earth: the pine forests of Gran Canaria.
The Gran Canaria Blue Chaffinch (Fringilla polatzeki) is one of Europe’s most threatened forest birds. Its world is remarkably small — mature Canary Island pine forests, where it feeds, breeds and remains remarkably faithful to its home.
After centuries of habitat loss and the devastating impact of wildfires, its numbers fell dangerously low. Yet this tiny island endemic has shown extraordinary resilience. Conservation programmes, including captive breeding and translocation, are helping it return to parts of its former range. Still, its future depends on the forest.
So, when you look at this little blue bird, remember: you are not only looking at a species. You are looking at a whole forest — and at a place worth keeping alive. 🌲💙

This is a "National Bird" collaboration: Eleven talented artists share their unique visions of birds that embody the spirit, culture, and folklore of their countries – from official emblems to beloved local icons.

ENCOUNTERS AFTER DARK | ARTCOLLABFAMILY | ANIMAL GROUP

When the world grows quiet, another one begins to move.
A rustle in the leaves. A shadow on an old trunk. Eyes watching from the darkness.
The night is not empty. It is simply waiting for us to slow down and notice the lives that unfold while we sleep.

Tonight, a common genet (*Genetta genetta*), one of the quiet neighbours that share our landscapes after dark.
Perhaps the night is not something to fear, but another world waiting to be discovered. Come to dive into the mysterious world of nocturnal animals. 🌙✨
