This first issue is dedicated to a familiar time almost made obsolete by digital rippers. Phnom Penh, a notorious haven for pirated DVDs, resembles the milieu also experienced by Filipinos. The pairing of Cambodia and the Philippines in this first issue of the magazine connects our common images and stories, born through the nexus of Southeast Asia as a diverse, rapidly transforming cultural and economic sphere.

MARG1N - Open Call

We are looking for contributors to Issue 3 of the magazine. For the first time, MARG1N will bring together three countries, Brunei, Thailand, and Timor-Leste on the theme of cosmology in Southeast Asian cinema. Cosmos refers to a formless, ever-expanding apparatus. It encompasses creation myths, folklores, magics, dark forests, the occult, and starry futures which occupy cinematic imaginations.

We look forward to receiving proposals that reconfigure or reimagine cinema and its history in new ways—ranging from film analyses, essays, creative nonfiction, and poetry to visual essays or other experimental forms of film writing and criticism.

If you do not have a long-form piece in mind to pitch, we encourage you to send us original images, textual fragments, excerpts, quotes, and other short-form fragments that remind you of the issue's theme of cosmos and the visual cultures or cinemas of the three countries.
