The fifth edition of SONMO Dialogues brought together Dr. Francisco Cifuentes (@studio_cifuentes_ethz), architect, co-founder of Aulets Arquitectes (@aulets_arquitectes) and Amarar, and Professor of Architecture and Resources at ETH Zurich.

He shared his approach to architecture through the relationship between territory, materials and local knowledge.

From local timber and stone to earth, he explored how working with the resources already around us can help reconnect architecture with its territory, while keeping the knowledge and crafts behind them alive.

At SONMO, we share this way of thinking: working with the resources of the estate and transforming them into new products.

En nuestro taller de cerámica, en la finca Son Moragues, cada botella se hace colada, se limpia y se pule a mano, una a una. 
Después, cada pieza recibe nuestro sello y pasa por su primera cocción a 1000 grados para luego esmaltarla.
 Cargar el horno también requiere conocimiento y precisión: la posición de cada pieza puede influir en el resultado final, especialmente en colores como el Garrova.

Made from Mallorcan sheep’s wool blended with Spanish Merino wool, woven at Son Moragues on our restored late-19th-century loom, once part of Can Ribas, one of Mallorca’s historic textile factories.

From the resources of the estate to new products.

The principle remains the same: making use of what surrounds us and giving it a new life.

Ash, once used as a natural detergent, now becomes glazes for our ceramics. Wool, traditionally used for textiles, is now woven into apparel and accessories, and made into felt. taken in SONMO by @sonmo

PIPA, NUESTRA PERRA PASTORA 
Pipa tiene cuatro años y es una Border Collie Blue Merle. Sus padres también fueron perros pastores y el pastoreo lo lleva en la sangre.

Es una raza inteligente, ágil y con habilidades innatas para el pastoreo. Cada día acompaña a Llorenç con las ovejas y sabe cuándo tiene que trabajar: reunirlas, guiarlas y estar atenta a cada movimiento del rebaño.

También sabe cuándo acercarse de otra manera, especialmente a los corderos, con los que es tranquila y cariñosa. Tiene, además, una relación muy cercana con los niños. 
El pastoreo es un trabajo de equipo. Llorenç conoce a sus ovejas y Pipa conoce su forma de moverse. taken in SONMO by @sonmo

Here, our Garrova ceramics come together in a table setting by @audhilds, photographed by @lifestyle_mallorca.

A deep, glossy brown that shifts to amber at the edges, shaped by the natural behaviour of our glaze in the kiln. Made in our ceramic workshop at the estate.
