Have you ordered our “in cloudy states” coloring book + poem + liner notes yet? This is intended as an immersive experience — the music, the imagery, the words. You can order it on Bandcamp. Do it with your kids. Do it alone. Do it while listening to the EP or pondering the fleeting nature of existence. And thanks in advance for your support! by @sontagshogun

got a new song to share with y’all!
this one’s called “Scribbling Transience” and its the first single off the upcoming @touchtheplants compilation (out in Feb), curated by @kaitlynaurelia

the theme was Love Letters (chosen by @snacksisgood ) so we focused on layered musical ideas like archived correspondences that felt like a collective yearning .

the comp features amazing artists: @ttmasa @hand.habits @sophyesoliveau @heinalimusic @sixmissing @dylanhenner & @kaitlynaurelia herself! can’t wait to hear their tracks.

you can find the single on @bandcamp as well as streaming servicessss by @sontagshogun

A 9-fingered rendition of our new song “in cloudy states,” played along to the stems. It’s a different beast without a LH pinkie. Also, did you know the stems are available for anyone? DM me for the link if you want to mess with them yourself. by @sontagshogun

CHOOSE THE SWORD!
SHOGUN ASSASSIN w/ Live Score by SONTAG SHOGUN! Saturday, Dec. 6th, Doors 7pm.
Experience the legendary midnight movie sensation that firmly embedded samurai mythology within American pop culture consciousness. A giddily entertaining, hallucinatory classic of grindhouse mayhem with an immersive live soundtrack by SONTAG SHOGUN on piano, organ, field recordings and analog electronics. Shogun Assassin proved an instant cult favorite that has bubbled its way up from the underground to the mainstream thanks to its influence on artists ranging from the Wu-Tang Clan to Quentin Tarantino.

Sontag Shogun is a collaborative trio that makes use of analog sound treatments and nostalgic solo piano compositions in harmony to depict abstract places in our memory. Textures built from organic materials such as sand, slate, boiling water, brush and dried leaves, both produced live in performance and recorded to weathered ¼" tape warm up the space between lush piano themes. All of which is abstracted coolly in the reflective digital space of treated vocals and a live-processed feed from the piano. Bringing us back, like a faded passing scent or any natural emotive trigger, but to where? The wordless journey there will inevitably be more revealing than the destination itself.

Sontag Shogun recently released Päiväkahvit in collaboration with Lau Nau on Portland's renowned Beacon Sound label.

Ian Temple: piano, organ

Jeremy Young: magnetic tape loops, oscillators, amplified objects & surfaces

Jesse Perlstein: treated vocals, field recordings, and electronics taken in Epsilon Spires by @sontagshogun

Sontag Shogun x Lau Nau :: Päiväkahvit (Beacon Sound)
https://igloomag.com/features/sontag-shogun-x-lau-nau-paivakahvit-beacon-sound
#igloomag #features

"Päiväkahvit is a tender, richly textured ambient album blending sparse instrumentation, ethereal vocals, and intimate field recordings—from birdsong to children playing—capturing the joy of shared, everyday moments. Created by Sontag Shogun and Lau Nau during a 2019 retreat in Finland, the album flows like a sonic diary of peaceful afternoons, meditative moods, and quietly magical collaborations." ~@robinja56 by @sontagshogun
