The ancient Elymian temple of Segesta, from around 5th century BC, a bit of a tourist circus and much less extensive than Selinunte or Agrigento, but well worth hiking up the hill after seeing the main temple to see the amphitheatre and the remains of an ancient mosque from the 12C muslim settlement, a Hellenistic-Roman town and the view.
Legend says that the Elymi were descendants of Trojan refugees fleeing the destruction of their city. The temple was apparently never completely finished due to the war between Segesta and Selinunte. taken in Segesta. Anfiteatro E Tempio. by @sonyajeffery

A walk to a beach in Zingaro Nature Reserve - saved from being destroyed by a road by activism that resulted in a big protest march in 1980 and a guarantee to preserve the area. The beaches have pebbles, no sand, and silky water. taken in Riserva Naturale Dello Zingaro by @sonyajeffery

Un giorno a Milano. There was a tram strike and we walked 20,000 steps and then got a lift from a signora from Ischia from the tram stop to Porta Romana when the number 9 failed to come. by @sonyajeffery

We’ve been staying in Tiong Bahru - Singapore’s oldest public housing estate built in the Streamline Moderne ( or late art eco) style between 1936-41 and expanded between 1948-54. All apartments are 4 storeys and there are green paths and parks all the way through. Now somewhat gentrified with cafes and some specialist retail, but the Tiong Bahru market ( built in the 50s), with produce, fish and meat and more downstairs and a hawker/food centre upstairs is still at the heart. I originally came here in 2014 to visit an indie bookshop ( since closed after a scandal involving the owner) had a wide selection of indie presses and stocked Vogliamo tutto. by @sonyajeffery

Some relaxing days in Kyoto staying on the river- mostly sticking to the north of the city, away from the main tourist concentration. Many good small bookshops, both new and second hand, and catching up with Kaori-san and Eiichi-san( photo of Kaori is from last year asI forgot to take one, but she is wearing the same dress! ). We visited Kaori’s old University - Kyoto University of Art and Design and her friend who teaches animation there. They call the waterfall the “Tuition Fee Waterfall” paid for by the high tuition fees charged to students. I guess universities all over are similar - lots of spending on new buildings etc but still charging high fees. by @sonyajeffery
