POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Its publication day for the brilliant, different, inventive, heartfelt, Peck & Peck by @bonnie_garmus_author. I can’t really believe we are here after the mad build up of the last year. Over the months there have been takeovers of our offices, of bookshops, of book fairs. There have been great days at the printers. There have been a lot of signed copies (thanks Bonnie!). There has been a team, who I can’t thank enough, who have 100% got this book from day one and delivered the most creative campaign that I think Batter Gray would approve of. There has been some beef with the big guys 😜…and there has been much joy - just as we promised when we pitched for this book last December (final pic of where I was - in snowy upstate New York - when we found out we had a deal!).

I don’t publish that many books any more - and it could not have happened without my partner in crime @sophiemorme - but boy have I loved publishing this one. At London Book Fair back in the Spring, an agent asked me if I felt like the industry was watching us? At the time, it terrified me. But now, I hope they are and I hope everyone has enjoyed seeing this book come to life the way we have.

Thank you to the entire team, to everyone who has supported this book and most importantly to @bonnie_garmus_author who is a complete dream to work with.

Go fly Peck & Peck - it’s time for some poetic justice.

In case you missed our gorgeous cover reveal earlier this week from @manilla_press, #Witchwater @consummatechaos is a spellbinding novel, brimming with myth and legend, that follows Evelyn, a river woman, who, on finding her kin accused of witchcraft, must somehow find the strength to turn the tide . . .

Evelyn is a river woman, part of a group of wise women, marked out by the confession bottles they carry around their necks, that conceal their deepest secrets. Living with her grandmother and her sister Merryn, her beliefs are bound up with the ancient folklore of this alternate England, shaped around its waterways.

But into this land, something dark has been seeping. The young king hasn't been seen for weeks and the church's influence over the dowager queen, led by the sinister Lord Defender, grows ever stronger. New edicts are made, outlawing many of the old ways and denouncing the river women as witches.

Before long Evelyn will find all she holds dear at terrible threat . . .

So excited to publish Spanish language sensation #CleanHouses @marigundez in January @manilla_press

A brilliantly outrageous take on the contradictions of modern feminism, class awareness and the social choreography of domestic labour, Clean Houses features the uncomfortable realism of Lucia Berlin meets the sharp social satire of My Year of Rest and Relaxation.

Told with razor-sharp wit and an unfiltered, hypnotic voice, Clean Houses follows Sol, a progressive young woman obsessed with cleanliness who, upon becoming pregnant, hires two housekeepers to help her at home. Although having cleaners should, in theory, make Sol's life easier, it instead becomes a source of inner turmoil: she needs them, yet she wishes they didn't exist.

Morally compelled to justify her privilege, Sol searches for a more 'respectable' and creative job - one just as precarious as those of her girls. However, in a twist of irony, she finds herself secretly enjoying the cleaning jobs she takes on the side - and excelling at them . . .

'Reflects on what we truly think (but almost never say) about domestic labour' Vogue

'A witty and unflinchingly honest novel on domestic work, motherhood, and class. Painfully relatable and enjoyable to read' Roxy Dunn, author of As Young as This

'Makes you laugh and feel uncomfortable in equal measure' Telva

During the warmest spring anyone can remember, in a Scottish coastal town, a boy discovers the magic of birds . . .

Delighted to reveal the absolutely stunning cover for #TheseGlassBodies @rebeccahooperauthor @manilla_press by the very talented @owen_gent.

This gorgeous book is an absorbing, unsettling debut novel of love, community and our fragile relationship with the natural world. It is about Rory, a boy who hasn't found a way to speak for the past five years and the connection he makes with Anna, a woman compelled to rescue struggling jackdaw chicks.

@bonnie_garmus_author called it: 'Stunning. Moving, elegant, important, Rebecca Hooper is a voice that must be heard' and I couldn't agree more.

Out in March 2027. Pre-order here! https://geni.us/TheseGlassBodiesUK by @sophiemorme

Happy publication day to the ludicrously talented @ediemayhand - I'm so proud to publish her debut novel #Dirtpickers today!

We had a lovely time yesterday in London signing 500 copies of the @goldsborobooks special edition for their FreshInk debut sub box, more copies in Foyles, then onto the @wearebardbooks debut fiction event that evening.

I'd urge you to read this astonishing, heart-swelling debut novel of love, trauma and found family - it will break your heart and then mend it again. I loved this review in the @irishtimesnews this week:

'Astonishing. The writing is blazingly vivid. With its windswept landscapes and rifle-shouldering, taciturn characters, there are echoes of a classic western. But Dirtpickers is also a horror story . . . What is impressive about this novel is its discipline. Perhaps it's unnecessary to mention that the author of this tale, set in a North America of 50 years ago, is in her twenties and from Meath. But given that she's so remarkably gifted, it's noted how little she shows off. What she opts instead is to delicately maintain an atmosphere of tension in a world that is richly but tautly constructed. All we can do is bury ourselves in its fury and wait for its simmering to snap'

Further praise for DIRTPICKERS

'Everything I love in a novel' @jennie.godfrey

'Magnificent. Edie May Hand's gift for language and for exploring the complexities of what humans are capable of is stunning' @belmckeon

'Truly unforgettable' Fiona Scarlett

'A truly extraordinary work' Hesse Phillips

'Deeply poignant' Sunday Independent

'Tender, unflinching and ultimately life-affirming' Seth Insua by @sophiemorme
