5 years ago during Covid I decided I wanted to do something to help my community overcome a difficult, isolating time. As someone who had been through foster care and homelessness I understood how scary it can be to lose everything that’s familiar and feel isolated but I also developed many tools which not only helped me survive but thrive in life.I learned:The conversations you have with yourself and those around you can be the difference between you remaining stagnant or growing. Be kind to yourself and pay attention to conversations that are playing out around you.If you’re not happy where you are then change your environment. If you want your life to change you have to change your life. Even the smallest of changes to your daily routine can have a huge influence. You can change someone’s life simply by choosing to be yourself. Your energy is felt way before your actions or words are expressed so remember It’s VITAL to lay down personal boundaries when it comes to helping others. As they say on planes ✈️ put your own mask on first. Your kindness gets taken for granted when it’s driven with expectation.Kindness should be an expression not a strategy. Change your narrative from “I’m kind so I will be safe” to “I’m safe so I can choose to be kind” Observe without denial and choose without guilt. If people don’t reciprocate with kindness that’s their burden to carry not yours. When societal pressures get too much, ground yourself in nature she will teach you what’s really important and help you ground yourself. Comparing yourself to others is the faster way to breed inadequacy. Focus on your own timeline, relationships, financial status and healing. Change your mindset from “why am I not there yet” to “what am I doing to get where I want to be” Above all. Choose to trust the past is over, break the survival mode by focusing on being grateful and finding moments that bring your happiness and light up your soul but also remember it’s okay to feel emotions too. Healing isn’t linear embrace the highs and the lows. by @sophieswanderland

The hardest part about learning to draw is the amount of hours you have to spend staring at the same thing, the same lines, the same errors, the same colours… for hours then you have to try and convince yourself that you still like it.💁‍♀️This week I learned having two pieces on the go really helps as I never want to stop drawing when I’m in a flow state so I never took breaks before.Being able to break by delving into another piece really gives my brain a chance to reboot and like the picture again as I see it from a different perspective ☺️🐈#artwork #beginnerart #artistsofinstagram #selftaughtartist #petportraitsofinstagram by @sophieswanderland

I’m so glad I found the courage to fully step into art.I honestly think I held back for years because subconsciously I didn’t want to be anything like my mum (she was an incredible artist but took away my childhood). It’s moments like these when I’m connecting with my roots filled with peace and love instead of resentment that I’m truly grateful for the journey I took to get here. I’m really proud of where I came from and I’m excited for where the universe will guide me next. 🧡🎨#artwork #selftaughtartist #beginnerart #artistsofinstagram by @sophieswanderland

I think time starts to feel like it’s going faster as we grow older because we start to lose the childhood excitement we once had to learn and grow without a desired outcome Somewhere down the line we started to create comfortable routines that kept us stagnant Eventually we began to believe we knew enough and life became a routine.. ground hog day until our human existence ended I think life slows down again when we remind ourselves of the importance of learning, creating and excitement for the small things again Growing older shouldn’t be something to fearIt’s a chance to explore our bodies and minds at a new level of experience and comprehension Not everything we do should come with a desired outcome Do it because it feels good, do it because it makes you feel alive, do it because you can, regardless of what that looks like to others Because contrary to what society tells you, most people would love to see the world through their childlike eyes again they just can’t give themselves permission to do so by @sophieswanderland

I’ve always loved to challenge myself to keep learning because I truly believe we don’t know what we’re capable of until we give it a go and that really excites me. I used to put a lot of pressure on myself to always have an end goal to what it was I was trying to achieve and felt like a failure when I lost interest which happens a lot with my brain 🤣 The best lesson I ever learned was to simply remove the idea of always having an end goal, just enjoy the process of learning something new and being fluid to my ever changing life and mindset. For me I’ve realised it’s really important to have multiple things on the go, so I have a variety of hobbies that keep me stimulated and engaged as my mindset ebbs and flows through life. I don’t enjoy being restricted to one thing or one way of thinking neither do I like putting myself in a box or labels. This month I’ve decided to focus on discovering my creative side something I’ve wanted to do for a long time but not really been ready to sit still with myself long enough to engage. It’s a great feeling to finally be in a place where I can find fun in something that keeps me still in solitude discovering my creative side but also finding peace in a more regulated nervous system is an exciting new step in my life ✨😌 by @sophieswanderland
