My posts have been few & far between this past year and I felt it was time to provide a refresh of the work I offer with Sort Thoughtful Living, especially for anyone new here. My work sits at the intersection between function and feeling, helping clients shape their spaces to not only be beautiful but genuinely easier to live in. A large part of what I do now is consulting along with more limited space for hands on work : Prep to Sell guidance for Real Estate, downsizing, move in support that blends styling with practical set up, thoughtful edits for closets, wardrobes, kitchens, and the everyday systems that quietly hold a home together behind the scenes. I also work with clients virtually on decorating and layout, what I often refer to as spatial and functional planning…looking at how a space flows, how it’s used and how it can be refined to feel more intentional and calm. At its core, this work is very personal to me. It’s about your home being your sanctuary and not needing to take a holiday in order to achieve a sense of peace, I want you to have that each and every time you walk in your front door. I want your space to feel lighter, more considered and be more aligned with the way you actually want to live. Up early as it’s time to catch up on my paperwork I have been happily avoiding. Back to School. Here is to all of the beginnings & endings & in between moments that make up this journey. The first day of Kindergarten, the first time they walk into school without looking back to see if you are still there, new teachers, friends both new and familiar, lost lunchboxes, bringing home art projects for the first time, learning to read and write, forgotten homework, sick days, tired days, late night projects and early morning chaos. A recollection of some of the first school memories that come to mind for me. Watching them become more independent, discovering who they are, finding their people, stumbling, falling and making mistakes & learning how to get back up, and slowly slowly needing us a little less. Here is also to the quieter endings that do one day arrive…the last first day of school, the last time you pack their lunch, the last school pick up, the last time they come through the door with a backpack over their shoulder. It is impossible to fathom that it shifts but it quietly does bit by bit as they grow their wings and we gently guide them to fly. As they grow, we grow. And somehow through every season and every version of who they are, we still carry the most precious memories of when they were small with beautiful firsts and we embrace the incredible young adults they now are as we take a seat and sit back for their journey into adulthood as it is all theirs to have ♥️ I came across this quote on Pinterest (source unknown) and for me it perfectly captures that strange but beautiful feeling of having your heart now out in the world in all of the stages of childhood. In English we say “I love my children” in poetry we say “My heart lives outside my chest. It runs barefoot in the grass, it laughs in voices lighter than air, and it weeps with tears that are mine and not mine at once. We are bound by threads unseen-stronger than iron, softer than silk. My children are the unwritten verses of me and I will guard their pages with all I am” They grow. We grow. I have always preferred to fly under the radar and have my face in a book versus being active here and these days I am finding that to be more and more where I am at and I am posting less & less. I throw the odd bit in my story to share what I’m up to now and again and otherwise i have been using the page more as a calendar to let clients know when I am available and out of office. That being said Fall is upon us and I have a variety of work lined up with styling, hands on organizing, a client downsizing, and a house to have its contents sorted, sold, and donated in order for the property to be sold to a developer. Once again as a reminder my offerings of my time is more limited with 3 days a week availability as I also focus on my art over at @cocoonatelier.ca so I do fill up quicker these days due to that. I am booking for the second week of September now & I also will be away for the last half of October in California for a very special ceremony & celebration with my family ♥️🌵♥️

OUT OF OFFICE // July 30-Aug 9th. Same as I always do when I go away I go old school and head off line for social media and will only be checking my messages a few times. I started this 5 years ago and I look sooo forward to it every single time. The level of rest and relaxation I get from doing so is the best feeling, I highly recommend! I am back in action once again. Starting the day off with downsizing prep in Point Grey now that my clients condo has sold we can move into prepping for his move. Then on to styling a livingroom in the Oakridge Area. I have two open spots for consults left in May and my June calendar is now open for both consults & hands on work three days a week. Well if you read my last post I was mentioning I needed to cancel this last weeks work due to a throat infection…unfortunately things are a tad more complex involving daily IV antibiotics, steroids & pain meds and a slow recovery sooo I am once again shutting things down for next week as well which is much longer than I hoped for. The lemons 🍋 keep on coming with the unexpected health hiccups but on one hand they are minor in the grand scheme of things & pale in comparison to what they could be. I am so lucky to be in a position to take the time needed to fully rest & recover. So I will be home & soaking in the sunshine when it comes with a stack of new books & endless puppy snuggles. I am shut down with a throat infection that feels like I have swallowed tiny shards of glass. Can’t recall feeling like this since I was a teenager. No voice. In bed. Sleeping upon sleeping. I have cancelled work shifts and new consult calls & am home once again until it passes. So sorry to disappoint and hope I will be back as quickly as this took me down. Sometimes our bodies beg for ongoing rest & this year that seems to be the theme of mine 🤍 by @sort.love

It’s been a wild ride the past few months in amongst some personal health issues, family members health, family members passing, puppy being neutered and then puppy getting sick, & then the very exciting in amongst the heaviness receiving keys to the new studio & settling in there. Phewww. Adult life at times can be a lot. At the same time work slowed down and honestly it really needed to in order for me to keep up with all of the personal things going on. So a blessing really or else I would have been having to cause many cancellations. That being said things are now getting personally lighter again and work demand is also coming in fast and furious with many new jobs on the go. Thank you so very much for all of the referrals pouring in this week. I am really grateful. I also wanted to jump on here for anyone that is working with me & reads these & is wondering why they never received a bill for work completed in March and April, i am way way behind on my invoicing. New Testimonial // I met Sarah 4 years ago when we had just moved, and I needed help making our new house into our home. Sarah has been the perfect person to help me with this transformation, room by room. She has a unique ability to connect, understand and source out what is needed…no matter whether for kitchen, bedrooms, living, dining spaces or playroom! She has helped me with design planning, built ins, lighting, furniture and decor. Sarah has so many great ideas and just seems to know what I will love! She even had some hardscape suggestions which has made our backyard work for multipurposes, and it looks fantastic! A dear friend whom is moving asked me today if I would enjoy organizing all of her books into alphabetical order in the most detailed of ways…FK yes it’s been a while! In the past few years I have been focusing a ton on the consulting side that I have really let the hands on organizing fade into the background. I’m recently itching to pick it back up more again. Just no mice infested crawl spaces please or garages with 10 years of dirt and mould. Otherwise I am in 🤣. Bring on the kitchens, closets & wardrobes, the books, the filing systems that are needed, the “stuff” bring on the stuff and bring on the areas that cause you stress and I will SORT it and bring you a ton of peace in the process.
