We finished up the workshop in Romania a couple days ago. The building displays ornamentations and construction techniques from structures in the Banat and Apuseni regions of Romania. All executed over the course of 2 weeks by about 40 carpenters from many countries. Organized and led by @biserici.inlemnite with instruction from local master Nicolae Toader and his team of carpenters and apprentices. We processed many Oak and spruce logs by splitting hewing and pit sawing. There is a log built section and oak plank and post timber framed portion. A traditional thatched roof of straw will be added sometime soon. Traditional carpentry is viable in this modern world and our vernacular architecture must be preserved. Losing these heritages around the world is devastating and its projects like these that can aid in saving the them. I am so lucky to be apart of this project and to make many connections that will last like the buildings we create. by @soundlystructural
