Looking for walks near London? You need the London Loop 🥾

The London Loop is a long-distance walking route that circles the whole of Greater London, with 24 sections that all start and finish at railway stations or Tube stations. That means you can pick a section, walk as much as you like, then hop on a train home.

Think green spaces, riverside paths, enchanting woodland, and some seriously good views, without needing to drive.

One route, more than 20 walks to discover 🌳

The London Loop is a 150-mile walking route around Greater London, divided into 24 sections so you can explore as much or as little as you like.

Every section starts and finishes at a railway station or Tube station, so you never have to go back on yourself.

AD | A super easy day out from London with your mates 🥾🍻

We recently hopped on a @southernrailuk train from London to Haywards Heath, picked up the @gojauntly route to Balcombe and spent a glorious day walking through the Sussex countryside before ending up in a very good pub for lunch.

We’ve actually done this walk before and it’s still one of our favourites … it’s got beautiful countryside, it’s easy to get to from London and, most importantly, a pub near the end!

Today, Tuesday 1st September, we’re welcoming you back to the railway between Lewes and Haywards Heath following the derailment on 13th August.

We know this has been an incredibly difficult and disruptive few weeks for many people across Sussex and we’re grateful for the patience, understanding and support shown by our customers, local communities and stakeholders while the railway was safely rebuilt and reopened. The reopening follows extensive recovery work, repairs, engineering checks and safety assurance activity carried out by railway teams.

Hear from our customer service Director, Jenny Saunders, who reflects on the importance of reopening the route, thanks those affected for their patience and explains how our teams will be on hand to support customers as services resume.

Update from Lewes

Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by yesterday’s derailment, especially those who were injured, along with their families, friends and loved ones. Our absolute priority continues to be the welfare of
our passengers, colleagues and all those impacted by this incident.

We are working closely with @networkrailsouthern , the emergency services, the Rail Accident Investigation Branch and wider industry partners to support those affected and to assist the ongoing response and investigation. In this video, our chief executive officer, John Whitehurst, who has been with recovery teams in Lewes, reflects on the difficult operation and provides an update on our services whilst the recovery effort continues.

We recognise the impact this incident is having on customers and local communities, and will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

If you’re travelling with us, notably to the Airbourne event this weekend, please check before you travel. Our free Southern app, website and X channel have the latest updates.

The line between Haywards Heath and Lewes remains closed, with buses running to and from Plumpton and Cooksbridge. This means journeys between London/Gatwick Airport, and Lewes/Eastbourne may take longer. Extra carriages are being added to trains between Brighton, Lewes and Eastbourne, to help you connect with other trains to and from London/Gatwick Airport.
