Full coverage that still looks like skin ✨

For this Anna Sawai-inspired transformation, my client’s skin was still recovering from an allergic reaction, with discoloration and freshly healed areas that needed a little extra care.

The goal wasn’t to erase every trace of texture—it was to neutralize the discoloration, create beautiful even coverage, and make the complexion look polished from a normal social distance and through the camera, without looking heavy or cakey.

This kind of complexion work takes more than simply applying a fuller-coverage foundation. I used targeted color correction and multiple ultra-thin layers, carefully choosing the right products, tones, placement, and amount of coverage for each area. Every layer was built gradually and precisely blended so we could achieve coverage while keeping as much natural dimension as possible.

And an important reality of makeup: skin is still skin. If you look from an inch away, you’ll still see natural pores, texture, and the areas that are healing—and that’s completely normal. Makeup shouldn’t have to make skin look filtered in real life.

What matters to me is that my brides look beautiful and refined in person at a natural conversational distance, stunning in photographs, and still like themselves. 🤍

Bridal makeup should look just as beautiful at the end of the night 🤍

Soft, polished skin. Defined eyes. An effortless updo. Nothing that takes over her features, just enough to make everything photograph beautifully from portraits to the dance floor.

This is always the goal for my brides. You should still look like yourself, just refined for one of the most photographed days of your life.

And this is why I love seeing the professional photos afterward 🥹

Which do you love more, her bridal portraits or the dance floor moments? ✨

A few of the powder highlighters in my professional kit and why I don’t use the same glow on every bride.

2027 bridal bookings are now open. If you’re looking for timeless, personalized bridal hair and makeup in the Bay Area or beyond, I’d love to hear about your wedding. 🤍

@rarebeauty | Exhilarate
For the bride who loves GLOW. ✨ This is one I reach for when I want a more reflective, glass like finish that really catches the light.

@diorbeauty | 004
One of my favorites for customization. I can choose one shade or mix them together depending on my client’s skin tone, undertone, and how she wants her finished makeup to look.

@maccosmetics | Double Gleam
My classic bridal glow. Soft champagne luminosity that works beautifully when I want the skin to look polished and radiant without the highlight becoming the focus.

@narsissist | Orgasm Four Play
When I want more than just highlight. The mix of gold, pink, rosy and deeper tones lets me bring warmth, color and dimension into the complexion for a softly sun kissed finish.

Having the right product is only the beginning. Knowing which shade to choose, where to place it, how much to apply and when to stop is what makes the difference.

The goal isn’t for you to notice the highlighter. It’s for you to notice beautiful, luminous skin. by @soyimakeup

When you hire a bridal hair and makeup artist, you’re choosing so much more than how you’ll look in your wedding photos.

As a Bay Area bridal hair and makeup artist, I’m often one of the first vendors my bride sees on her wedding day—and we may spend hours together before the ceremony even begins.

So yes, beautiful bridal hair and makeup matter.

But so does having someone who arrives prepared, keeps your beauty timeline on track, makes sure you never feel rushed, and brings a calm presence to your wedding morning.

I want you to sit in my chair, relax, and actually enjoy this part of your day—knowing everything is taken care of.

Because years from now, you’ll have beautiful photos of how you looked. But I also want you to remember how calm, confident, and happy you felt while getting ready.

That’s part of the bridal experience, too.

Planning your wedding? Follow along for timeless bridal beauty inspiration and wedding-day tips. And if my approach feels like what you’re looking for, I’d love to hear about your wedding. 🤍

Hanna’s bridal before & after ✨

For her Saratoga Springs wedding, we created a soft, timeless bridal look with radiant, skin-like makeup and a lightly textured updo.

For Hanna’s makeup, I focused on softly defining her features while keeping her complexion fresh and luminous. The goal was that healthy bridal glow without looking heavy or overly made up—beautiful both in person and on camera.

For her hair, we chose a refined, lightly textured bridal updo that feels modern today but timeless enough that I hope she’ll still love it when she looks back at her wedding photos 30 years from now.

As a Bay Area bridal hair and makeup artist specializing in Asian features, this is always my approach: enhancing what’s already there and creating a look specifically for the bride rather than following a one-size-fits-all formula.

Softly undone, but still polished.

The kind of updo that feels romantic without being overly styled—and works beautifully with an open back or statement neckline.

Timeless bridal hair will always have my heart. 🤍

One of the most nerve-wracking moments as a bridal MUA is handing your bride the mirror and waiting for that first reaction. 🥹

Grace and I actually made quite a few adjustments from her bridal preview — both makeup and hair. And that is exactly what a preview is for. 🤍

A bridal preview isn’t necessarily about creating the final look on the first try. It’s a chance for us to explore, see what works, understand what you love (and what you don’t), and fine-tune all the little details together.

The feedback I get from my bride during the preview allows me to come into the wedding day with a much clearer understanding of her preferences, so I can make the final look even more intentional and precise.

So when Grace looked in the mirror on her wedding day and said, “No, I love it!” followed by the sweetest “thank you so much,” I could finally breathe. 🥹🤍

And this is the reaction I hope every bride has — not just because she loves her hair and makeup, but because she feels completely confident and beautiful in her own skin.

Grace, thank you for trusting me through the process and for your incredibly kind words. It meant so much to me. 🤍

A fairytale tucked into the redwoods.

This bride wanted classic, not trendy — clean, bright, and unmistakably her.

Soft glam bridal makeup built around her features, not against them: soft-set skin, a considered flush, techniques tailored to her skin tone and eye shape, with nothing heavy or overdone. Paired with a timeless bridal updo as intentional as the gown itself.

Every bride‘s version of ”classic“ looks different — this was hers.

The kind of bridal work I love has always been timeless. 🤍

It was an honor to have this Swan Lakes Castle editorial featured in Magnolia Rouge, a publication I’ve long admired for its refined and intentional approach to weddings.

As I continue to refine SOYI and evolve my brand, looking back at these images reminds me that one thing has never changed: my philosophy.

I believe the most beautiful bridal makeup should never overshadow the bride. It should enhance her natural features, complement her personal style, and allow her to feel authentically herself—only more radiant.

I‘m incredibly grateful to have collaborated with such a talented team of creatives on this editorial:

Bridal makeup isn’t about products, techniques, or trends. It’s about thoughtful artistry and creating an experience that allows a bride to feel her best.

There’s a lot of noise in the beauty industry.

Every week there’s a new “must-have” product, viral technique, or makeup trend promising flawless bridal makeup.

But after years of working with brides, I’ve learned that beautiful bridal makeup is rarely about one product or one trick.

It’s about understanding the person sitting in the chair.

Her skin.
Her features.
Her comfort level with makeup.
Her wedding vision.

And how she wants to feel when she walks down the aisle.

And perhaps the most overlooked truth of all...

Your makeup artist is often the first vendor you’ll spend your wedding morning with. Long before the ceremony begins, we’re there helping set the tone for your day.

A calm, organized morning.
A reassuring presence.
A timeline that keeps everything on track.
The confidence to simply enjoy every moment.

Years from now, I don’t just want my brides to remember loving their makeup and hair.

I want them to remember how peaceful, joyful, and cared for they felt on one of the most important mornings of their lives.

Because beautiful bridal makeup is only part of the experience. 🤍

✨ Which truth resonated with you the most?
