A glimpse behind the scenes of Cinco y Sueños as we stepped inside the Hernández home, the heart 💗 of Camilo, Ana, Lucía, and Danny’s world.

Between takes, camera setups, rehearsals, and all the moments in between, this home became so much more than a location. It became a space where the Hernández family began to take shape and where so much of the heart of our story lives.

We are proud to celebrate MFA Directing Alum Samantha Pazos and her short film, Cinco y sueños, written by Sandra Portal-Andreu.

Set in 1990s Miami, Cinco y sueños follows Camilo, a devoted Cuban father determined to preserve tradition and give his daughter the quinceañera of her dreams. After losing his job, his faith and patience are put to the test. As magical visions of ancestral symbols begin to weave into his everyday world, he places his hopes in five numbers from La Charada Cubana, the Book of Numbers. Camilo’s quiet gamble becomes a tender exploration of sacrifice, tradition, and the enduring dreams of immigrant families.

Currently in post-production after more than a year of development, the film is a moving exploration of family, tradition, sacrifice, and the dreams that sustain immigrant communities. We are excited to support Samantha’s work and can’t wait to see where Cinco y sueños goes next. taken in Miami by @spazos

Celebration 🎉 and Community…

Day 5 brought us together for one of the film’s most vibrant and joyful moments.

Surrounded by family, friends, artists, and community members, we captured scenes that celebrate the traditions, music, and connections that inspire the world of Cinco y Sueños.

Today, we feature @cealmirante @dianagarle @phia.ig @alvarezrites81 @deannanicole_official and Gabo Andreu for this final scene. 🎬

As we wrapped principal photography, we were reminded that filmmaking—like the celebrations depicted in the film—is ultimately about people coming together to create something meaningful.

Thank you 🙏🏼 to everyone who helped make this journey possible. Onward to post-production.

🎬 That’s a wrap on Cinco y Sueños.

After months of writing, planning, dreaming, and a whirlwind few days of filming, we are officially moving into post-production.

Days 1 & 2 of Cinco y Sueños brought us into Camilo’s world—his family, routines, responsibilities, and the dreams that guide him. We spent these first days building the foundation of a story rooted in 1990s Miami, family traditions, and the love that drives us to do extraordinary things for those we cherish.

MFA #2 ✅

I never thought I would quit my job and go back to grad school… and here I am. Best decision ever.

To all of the artists and professors that I’ve met at CMU and Pittsburgh these last 3 years, especially my @cmu.directing cohort and our fearless leader, @kimweild, you have changed me for the better (not trying to quote Wicked). May we continue to be in each other’s lives, support one another, and make art together … the world needs more of this right now.

To my father, who I lost at the beginning of this process, but I could feel him guiding me these last 3 years.

To my mother who single-handedly supported me so I could fulfill my dream. My rock. I am everything that I am because of you and your undeniable strength.

These past three years have shown me that despite life’s challenges, I’m stronger and more capable than I realized. Skills that serve me as a director. I’m grateful to @cmudrama for giving me the space to show up as my authentic, unapologetic self, and have the opportunity to create work that represents my roots and identity. I hope that more institutions continue to make space for our stories.

Thank you @zulyinirio for bringing my flag to commencement (you can see her hand me the flag in the video 😂). This Miami girl carries her roots proudly wherever she goes. 🇨🇺🫀
