Autumn at the bookshop was magical in a lot of ways. As we collectively enter winter and all the looming chaos and uncertainty becomes a bit more real in these coming months, I’m more thankful than ever for the creative, socially engaged, and optimistic energy that this tiny town provides. Special thanks to @dandestiny for continuing his very successful run as the Collective events master of ceremonies, to my brother @jordan.brunner for officiating my personal bookshop ceremony, @vincentschoice @alyssssandra @adamjamesglover and all of the other talented musicians that have taken to the stage while @mjferro215 tends bar, my co-op partner @bookmarketltd keeps all the amps from squeaking, and @ravenhillbagels keeps us all fed.
We actually have some fantastic things lined up for the coming season, starting with a party for @araewrites, to celebrate the release of The Resurrectionist. taken in Idyllwild, California by @speakeasybooks

Please join us at The Collective on Sunday, May 25th, as we set our outdoor events season into motion with an enthralling evening of poetry and music, co-hosted by @spiritmountainretreat.

The occasion will begin next door in the garden at Spirit Mountain, where celebrated poets Jaqueline Suskin and Mandy Kahn will give readings from their newest collections. Book signings will proceed in the Collective courtyard, along with a musical set by songwriter Jenny O., with after hours food provided by Raven Hill and speciality cocktails by Ferro.

Jaqueline Suskin is a Detroit based poet, and educator who has been teaching workshops, writing books and hosting retreats around the world since 2009.  @jsuskin will be reading from her ninth book, THE VERSE FOR NOW, a meditative collection on interconnection and agency in an expanding universe; which asks us to accept ourselves as planetary, at once vast and cosmic, while equally small and animal.

Mandy Kahn is a poet, peace activist, and opera librettist based in Los Angeles. She’s the author of three poetry collections, which have been included in the Best American Poetry anthology series and in former poet laureate Ted Kooser’s syndicated newspaper column American Life in Poetry. @mandykahn will be reading from HOLY DOORS, a lyrical and luminous record of what life is like as our spiritual nature begins to live more fully in the body. Each of Kahn’s poems begins with earnest inquiry and ends with an ecstatic moment of communion with the part of the self that is connected to all things.

Singer, songwriter, and climate activist Jenny O. will be performing songs on connectivity, identity, and purpose. @jjjennyo’s fourth full-length album, Spectra, is a celebration of the universal and the organic – a manual straight from the soul on how to love practically and unconditionally, in all directions.

The evening has been thoughtfully, intentionally pulled together and brought into existence by @nicoledisson. We hope to see you all come out for a bit of magic! taken in Idyllwild, California by @speakeasybooks
