Ran into the White Rabbit at my school visit today, which is not surprising at all because it's Book Week!

It was a huge honour to present to the whole school. We also had some story writing fun with a keen group of young writers. I'm blown away by all their imagination!

Thanks so much Mrs Eddy for your time and generosity this morning. Your library is amazing and the children are so lucky to have you and your passion for stories, books, reading and writing. I had a ball!

✏️ BOOK WEEK
CARMICHAEL COLLEGE ✏️

What a ripper day with the legends at Carmichael College! 🙌

We spent the day drawing, creating characters and exploring how to bring emotion and personality into illustrations — plenty of happy, shocked, grumpy and completely bonkers faces along the way. 😃😲🤪

Huge thanks to Tamara and the crew @speakers.ink for making it happen, and to the brilliant staff and students at Carmichael College for such a warm welcome.

And, of course, a special nod to SpongeBob for providing some serious emotional inspiration. 🌊💛
Legends all round! ✏️👑

End of Book Week 📸 time machine

From 2023-2026🎒

🛝1️⃣-3️⃣ my first ever school visit turned out to be the school’s first ever author visit! Then I did a quick Superwoman twirl into scrubs in the change room, in time for an afternoon list! 🦸🏻‍♀️➡️👩🏻‍⚕️

🛝4️⃣-5️⃣ the OG characters in NOTHING ALIKE👯 (best school visit, maybe a bit biased!)

🛝6️⃣-9️⃣ schools from western QLD to the Gold Coast

🛝🔟 best Book Week costume ever! Thanks @alirutstein & I’m sorry my 🦘 went as a teletubby (for shame!🙈), instead of as a 🐞🦋🐊 last year.

🛝11-12 beautiful, welcoming schools.

🛝13 my heart hasn’t been in it the past couple of years because 💔🍉💔

🛝14-16 but there have been some nice things this week, including @sandhya_librarybagbooks ‘s terrific online presentation at @statelibrarynsw on Monday. And photo shoots of SAY HELLO LIKE AN ARMADILLO👋 all around a lovely school I visited on Friday. Fun letting the 🦀 pose in her mural habitat!

Until #BookWeek 2027, hopefully a little ❤️‍🩹

✨IT’S BOOK WEEK!

I had a wonderful day with Preps, Year 1, Year 4 and Year 5. Four different workshops, four different books! AND I even got an invite to the costume parade—my vote for best dressed was a rotund and purple Violet Beauregarde, complete with her own golden ticket (and her friend Willy who was throwing out legit Wonka Bars). I was also super impressed by the book-loving principal and the passionate (and full-time) TL. Magic!

This is the first time I’ve had a workshop for my newest book, The Picture-Perfect Present (pic3) and it was super sweet. Loved hearing from the Year 1s about what makes the perfect present (hint: nothing broken, dangerous, that they have to pay for, or that they don’t like).

Thanks to @mrsh2art and @speakers.ink for making today happen. May we all just bask in the book love all week long. by @speakers.ink

Happy BOOK WEEK everyone, from sunny Melbourne! It’s a busy time of year for us authors and illustrators as we spring into schools all around the country to talk about the importance of books and reading in our world. I have a big run of schools and events that will see me in Toowoomba, the Hunter Valley, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Mullumbimby and Emerald. A huge thank you to all those wonderful teachers and librarians who make it all happen. Goodness, we need you now, more than ever. So, if you see an author or illustrator coming in your direction with a dazed look in their eyes, and a staggering gait, you will understand why they might be a tad weary.

Many thanks to the amazing teacher librarian Amanda of @telarahpslibrary for the photos of me mid flight. #bookweek #schoolvisits #books #childrensliterature by @speakers.ink

It’s Book Week season and I’m on the road, talking stories and creativity in schools. These pics from visits to @stlaurencescollege & @sheldoncollege in Brisbane. Thanks to the library / English teams for making these visits happen.

Students need school libraries and teacher-librarians now more than ever to connect them with the right book at the right time and help them navigate digital information in skilled and healthy ways.
