Welcome to our new Instagram page! 💙🩵🤍

We thought it was time to reintroduce ourselves!

For those who are new here, welcome! And to those who have been following our journey over the years, thank you for being part of it!

We’re Jacinta and Taylor, the husband-and-wife team behind Birrang Cultural Connections.

We’re both authors, educators and storytellers, but most importantly, we’re parents to two beautiful kids who are a big part of why we do what we do.

Over the next little while, we’ll be taking you on a bit of a deeper dive into Birrang Cultural Connections!

We’ll be sharing more about what we do, the inspiration behind each of our books, our vision for the future and a few little surprises along the way! 👀

So give our new page a follow, share it with your friends and family, and come along for the journey! 💙

Meet Jacinta!

Jacinta is one half of the team behind Birrang Cultural Connections!

She’s an author, educator and mum to our two beautiful kids.

With a background in early childhood education, Jacinta loves creating opportunities for children to learn, explore and connect through stories and hands-on experiences.

She’s also the co-author of our three children’s books, Our Mob, Our Dance and My Dreamtime Match.

For Jacinta, it’s about creating meaningful experiences that children and families can enjoy together. 💙

Meet Taylor!

Taylor is a proud Ngiyampaa and Wiradjuri man, author, cultural educator and facilitator.

Growing up, Taylor didn’t always have a strong connection to his culture. His own journey of reconnecting has become a big part of why Birrang Cultural Connections exists today.

He’s passionate about sharing Aboriginal culture, stories and experiences in ways that encourage people to learn, ask questions and build connections.

Whether it’s through storytelling, cultural workshops or working with children and young people, Taylor loves creating opportunities for people to learn while having a bit of fun along the way!

Our books!

What started with one little idea has now grown into three children’s books!

💚 Our Mob

💛 Our Dance

💙 My Dreamtime Match

Each book has its own story, inspiration and special meaning to us

It’s my 2026 @CbcaAustralia Book Week wrap-up!

From selfies to auditoriums, halls, and classrooms.
The many identity stickers
and the outfit ensembles.

I travelled all around Sydney this year for multi-day visits to several secondary schools to chat about illustration, book design and becoming noticers.

And it’s all thanks to teacher librarians.
SAVE OUR TEACHER LIBRARIANS!

See you again next year!
(or later this year for my other bookings! 😝😎)

If you would like me to visit your school - primary or secondary - you can contact my lovely agents at @SpeakersInk

😍📸Gorgeous classroom photos are courtesy of @Danebank

Thank you for having me, @Danebank , @pittwaterhouse house and St John Bosco College.

Ran into the White Rabbit at my school visit today, which is not surprising at all because it's Book Week!

It was a huge honour to present to the whole school. We also had some story writing fun with a keen group of young writers. I'm blown away by all their imagination!

Thanks so much Mrs Eddy for your time and generosity this morning. Your library is amazing and the children are so lucky to have you and your passion for stories, books, reading and writing. I had a ball!

Thanks @speakers.ink

Students need school libraries!! Anyone who’s ever been involved in term 3 Book Week festivities will know that librarians and libraries change lives.

They offer a haven for imagination, creativity and well-being for that kid who wants to disappear into a book, or that other kid who is having a bad day, or that kid who just wants to hang out with their friends and play games and belong in a place they know they’ll be safe.

There are too many studies that prove all of this is true, but for those of us lucky enough to actually see it for ourselves, we know it’s true.

I was a kid who loved my library and found safety and solace but also boundless fun. We need to agitate and harass our politicians to fund libraries and librarians. We need to make sure school principals know how important librarians are and have the library as the heart of every single school. It should be treated as importantly as maths or science or sport or health… If we encourage reading for enjoyment in our schools, and have librarians and libraries, we will not only be looking after the minds of these kids, we will also be gently nurturing their hearts.

It’s that fundamental. Thank you to every librarian doing best every single day to make kids happy. You are all wondrous!

✏️ BOOK WEEK
CARMICHAEL COLLEGE ✏️

What a ripper day with the legends at Carmichael College! 🙌

We spent the day drawing, creating characters and exploring how to bring emotion and personality into illustrations — plenty of happy, shocked, grumpy and completely bonkers faces along the way. 😃😲🤪

Huge thanks to Tamara and the crew @speakers.ink for making it happen, and to the brilliant staff and students at Carmichael College for such a warm welcome.

And, of course, a special nod to SpongeBob for providing some serious emotional inspiration. 🌊💛
Legends all round! ✏️👑

End of Book Week 📸 time machine

From 2023-2026🎒

🛝1️⃣-3️⃣ my first ever school visit turned out to be the school’s first ever author visit! Then I did a quick Superwoman twirl into scrubs in the change room, in time for an afternoon list! 🦸🏻‍♀️➡️👩🏻‍⚕️

🛝4️⃣-5️⃣ the OG characters in NOTHING ALIKE👯 (best school visit, maybe a bit biased!)

🛝6️⃣-9️⃣ schools from western QLD to the Gold Coast

🛝🔟 best Book Week costume ever! Thanks @alirutstein & I’m sorry my 🦘 went as a teletubby (for shame!🙈), instead of as a 🐞🦋🐊 last year.

🛝11-12 beautiful, welcoming schools.

🛝13 my heart hasn’t been in it the past couple of years because 💔🍉💔

🛝14-16 but there have been some nice things this week, including @sandhya_librarybagbooks ‘s terrific online presentation at @statelibrarynsw on Monday. And photo shoots of SAY HELLO LIKE AN ARMADILLO👋 all around a lovely school I visited on Friday. Fun letting the 🦀 pose in her mural habitat!

Until #BookWeek 2027, hopefully a little ❤️‍🩹
