An early 2000s video review of the NSX-R that I viewed in my youth, specifically its detailed highlight of the various materials, left a lasting impression on me. Consequently, when @gtgoods contacted me and graciously provided an in-house manufactured shift boot crafted from authentic NSX-R mesh jersey fabric and custom-fitted for the S2000, that video review immediately came to mind. I found it fitting to include it for this reel, shown on an old CRT no less.

There’s quite a few jersey fabrics out there, each with its unique application. Some Type R specific, some not. All colors are unique. It’s one thing to use a similar material, but the jersey fabric that GT Goods sources is produced by @studio6zero in Japan. Studio6Zero was founded by previous Honda executives and leaders that ran the interior and ergonomics operations for the S2000, NSX, and other platforms. The fabric used is an official reproduction, you can even catch a hint of blue hue in it just like the ones in all the NSX-R videos.

Though I did choose to use a boot collar to mimic the NSX-R set up, GT Goods were clever enough to apply an additional layer of fabric to the backside of the iconic mesh, allowing the boot to sit upright on its own. The boot is also templated specifically for the S2000’s shifter with a more fitted finish at the top of the boot while maintaining fullness at the base.

Incredibly happy with the results, and what a story to tell with such a minor mod to the S2K. Did I get to save 10 grams of curb weight? Perhaps not. But it sure inspired me to “fiddle” with more in the center console cover. To be continued.

After installation of the NSX-R Jersey shift boot, it inspired me to match up the CR trim design with it and complement the texture of the shift boot. Had quite a few scratches on my original silver trim, so refreshing them with new ones would improve things either way.

For this project, I have an OEM Honda S2000 CR radio door, part 7752-S2A-902ZG. Second, the CR switch panel trim and cup holder cover are from @mitamotorsports. Their options extend to pre-2006 models without the cut-out for the rear defroster on the switch panel, which wouldn’t have been possible if you were lucky enough to score some OEM ones.

The final results came out great. Though there is an issue with the cup holder cover rubbing against the sides. Further observation appears the OEM sides are shaped with an angle, and Mita’s are straight. A possible limitation with the manufacturing. Still, very grateful for having a company like Mita dedicate their product catalog to the S2000 and having options for us when it comes to discontinued parts. Hoping further engineering and refinement on this product could possibly see this issue be resolved in the future.
