As the Autumn school break is on, SPECTA remains open as usual: Wed-Fri 12:00-17:30, Sat 11:00-14:00..
However, should you find yourself a bit too far away this week, do visit our website specta.dk for some more in depth info.

Our latest "In Focus" features artist Ellen Hyllemose and her large-scale public commission “Welcome to the Langerhans’ Islands”, created for the entrance of the new Diabetes Center in Odense. The feature explores Hyllemose’s creative process and the journey from winning the commission in 2019 to the completion of the work in March 2026.

Enjoy!

On now:
JAKOB HUNOSØE: Joker

Jakob Hunosøe: “In recent years, my approach has moved towards a freer and more open direction. The images emerge without a predetermined concept or preconceived visual strategy. Objects such as jugs, vases, kitchen utensils and storage containers are used as pure forms and colours. With the camera fixed in position, the image is gradually constructed through repeated adjustments, additions and omissions until the composition is resolved.

The motifs break out of the picture frame and continue into the passe-partout, where lines and colours are repeated and carefully balanced.

These techniques extend the creation of the work beyond the photograph itself and introduce a distinct materiality. The viewer is invited to move closer to the work to engage with its surfaces and explore the encounter between photography and paper - between the photographed and the tangible. The works occupy a space between photography and the unique artwork, contributing to an ongoing exploration of the possibilities and materiality of photography in contemporary art.”

SPECTA is open today from 11:00 - 14:00

In our Viewing room we are currently showing selected drawings by Icelandic artist SIGGA BJÖRG SIGURÐARDÓTTIR.

In her ink drawings, Sigga Björg Sigurðardóttir connects parts of human figures with nature - trees, animals and plants merge with human legs, faces and other bodyparts and together they become what looks like hybrid life forms. At times it seems like an obvious fusion and at other times one gets the impression that the interconnection is more awkward.
The drawings hold both humorous as well as horrifiyng elements, and drag us into a surreel universe of something strangely well known.

Come by to see for yourself!

Come see "Joker", our new solo exhibition by JAKOB HUNOSØE.

Jakob Hunosøe’s new works occupy an intriguing space in between. They are photographs but are equally concerned with the boundaries of photography itself. They depict tangible objects, yet these objects are reduced to their visual properties. The photographic work takes on the appearance of an abstract painting or collage, while the objects themselves retain an ongoing connection to reality.

SPECTA is open Wed - Fri 12:00 - 17:30, Sat 11:00 - 14:00 and always by appointment

Visit our website specta.dk for a full text and a list of works, or DM for info.

Upcoming show:
JAKOB HUNOSØE: Joker

Join us for the opening on Friday Oct. 2 at 17:00!

SPECTA presents Joker, a new solo exhibition by Jakob Hunosøe, in which the physical boundaries of photography itself are expanded. The motifs - everyday objects such as kitchen utensils, packaging, an LP record and a matchstick - extend beyond the edges of the image and continue into the passe-partout, with repetitions and shifts in colours and lines, while the objects’ original functions recede entirely into the background. Analogue photography is no longer merely a window onto a specific arrangement of objects but becomes one material among several. Paper, photography, colour and frame together transform the work into a physical object.

Garden of Eden...
It may not, specifically, be "peroral". But, on the other hand, we all know, that it points to someone being tempted to eat something....
In Peroral, Goodman explores what we put into our mouths - food, medicine, and sources of pleasure - as well as the images we use to communicate desire. At once playful and provocative, the works move between nourishment and indulgence, health and pleasure, and the physical and the virtual.

This week is, sadly, your last chance to see Frances Goodman’s solo exhibition..
Opening hours are Wednesday-Friday 12:00 - 17:30 and Saturday 11:00 - 14:00.

Don't miss our current exhibition "Peroral" by Frances Goodman.

In Peroral, Goodman explores what we put into our mouths - food, medicine, and sources of pleasure - as well as the images we use to communicate desire. At once playful and provocative, the works move between nourishment and indulgence, health and pleasure, and the physical and the virtual. Doughnuts, bananas, and other comestibles are transformed into seductive ceramic objects, while a series of meticulously hand-quilted works takes the visual form of pharmaceutical blister packs. In Goodman’s hands, the familiar meanings of these objects begin to collapse and blur.

The exhibition takes its title from the medical term peroral, meaning administered or taken through the mouth. The mouth becomes a point of departure for considering both physical consumption and contemporary forms of communication.

The “pharmaceutical” quilts operate in parallel. The blister pack is an instantly recognisable object associated with medication, relief, and the promise of an immediate solution. Goodman recreates it through the painstaking processes of hand quilting, appliqué, thread, and fabric. An object associated with speed and immediate effect is thus transformed through an intensely slow and repetitive physical process.

A tension between instant gratification and sustained labour runs throughout Peroral. Taking a pill takes seconds; sending an emoji requires only a few taps; an intimate message or image can be transmitted almost instantly. Goodman’s works, by contrast, demand hours of repetitive, tactile work. Stitch follows stitch; ceramic forms are shaped, glazed, and fired. The seductive immediacy of the motifs is set against the persistence, discipline, and physical endurance required to make them.
