MEET SPENCER

Hi, I’m Spencer, founder of Playmaka Sports Performance.

Sports have been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. I played college baseball at the junior college, NCAA Division III, and NCAA Division I levels, where I experienced firsthand how much quality strength and conditioning can impact an athlete’s development. That experience sparked my passion for sports performance. Along the way, I earned my degree in Kinesiology, became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and committed myself to helping athletes become the best versions of themselves.

But I also realized something: not every athlete has access to the kind of coaching and programming that can truly help them improve.

That’s why I started Playmaka Sports Performance.

My mission is simple: to help athletes maximize their potential through structured, sport-specific strength and conditioning that develops strength, speed, power, and confidence. Not just for the next season, but for long-term athletic success.

My goal is to help you reach the next step in your athletic journey, then continue helping you pursue every goal that comes after it.

Here you’ll find training tips, athlete education, behind-the-scenes coaching, highlights of our athletes on the field and in the weight room, and practical ways to become a stronger, faster, and more resilient athlete.

Thanks for following along. I’m excited to share what we’re building at Playmaka and help as many athletes as possible along the way. 💪🏼 taken in Spokane Valley, Washington by @spencershipman2

Been a hell of a ride. What a blessing it was to play this game. Wouldn’t have wanted it to end with any other group. Thank you, baseball and thank you, Whitworth by @spencershipman2

World Mental Health Day-

Baseball has been the one thing through my life that has always given me happiness. I used the field, practice, games, extra work all as get aways from the stresses of life. A place to simply relax no matter what is going on. That was up until about a year ago. This last year, I went to the deepest, darkest place I have ever been & I had no idea why or how. I slowly saw my mental health dwindle down to the point that I wanted nothing to do with life, not even baseball. I wasn’t eating, I couldn’t focus, I was so stressed by anything & everything, & it felt like no one was on my side. There were days I didn’t think I was able to get out of bed. I simply hit what felt like rock bottom & saw no way out. I had lost me, & it affected every aspect of my life. Countless days I looked myself in the mirror & didn’t know who was looking back. Not just a couple days here & there, it was months at a time I felt this way. I began to realize what exactly was going on. I had bad depression & anxiety. I took a step back in life… moving, changing schools, leaving all people I’d grown so close with & everything I’d known for a year & a half in Portland, putting playing on pause, to try & simply get my life back on track.

Moving to Yakima, moving in with my best friend, as well as countless sessions of therapy, have helped me start to get my life back on track and find me again. This summer, I finally felt like I had found me again. I am writing this today, the absolute happiest version of me I’ve ever been. I could thank so many people for helping get me to this point, but that’s not the point of this post. The point of this post is to share a little bit of my own story and try & raise awareness for mental health.

As an athlete, you’re constantly told to just push through, which makes it even harder to ask for help, but asking for help was the best thing I’ve ever done. It may feel like you have no one, that no one really cares. I felt like I had no one. But I assure you that you do. I encourage you to reach out to people & see how there doing, like really see how there doing. There can never be enough love in this world, let’s spread it. by @spencershipman2
