Wow what did just happen yesterday?! Thanks to everyone for making Zuidgraad @boulderhalzuidhaven like it was. I loved climbing in the finals (which was with randomly chosen people from about the same level) infront of such an amazing crowd! I loved the boulders, atmosphere and especially the loud cheers of the crowd during the final, you guys have really cheered me to the top of the wall a few times, tysm!!! 🙂

Yesterday during the finals you've probably seen a side of me that I normally don't show. Most of the time I tend to be on the more introverted side, but yesterday evening I was just tired and took my chance to enjoy the moment. Again thanks to everyone and in my opinion everyone climbed so well the whole day! Also congrats to the other finalists @dries_bouldert @ginobodt @nienke.sorber @juul.tjuh and Sarita, you guys did so well!!! I already look forward to the next edition of Zuidgraad where I'll be able to watch the entire final! 🙃 by @spideyelectro

My first 7A!
21-07-2022: My first climbing session @boulderhalenergiehaven, not knowing what to expect and not knowing it would be my favourite sport in the future, I had very much fun and after some projecting I was able to do a turquoise/mint (5b/5c, sadly no recordings), I also still remember my goal was to ever do a black boulder (6a/6b).

02-06-2023 (nearly a year later) doing my first 7a, feels like a big milestone and proving to myself I can actually do more than a 6b. Also today I had a try-out lesson where the coaches said I had to try some yellow boulders (7a/7b, which I normally never try) and I actually got some moves 🙂 Lets stop grade chasing from now on and project some more 7a's, I will put a comparison video of a purple boulder on my first session.

Also thank you to everyone I met via bouldering, for all the fun session/climbing and for learning new stuff 🥲

The positive side of the 'but wait, what if...' :]

A day of just goofying around @nationalclimbingcenter (ngl, these make the most enjoyable and fun climbing sessions) 🙃 Didn't feel super duper strong, however I really enjoyed trying stuff. Thanks for the way too long session everyone!

Ps. it's never too early for Christmas 😋 (,or is it? 🤔)

'There's just so much that I want to say and far too little breath'

Competed at the Blockmasters 10 year anniversary comp :] Ngl, it was my first time climbing @block013 🫢 Maybe therefore all the boulders felt a little unsual to me, however that's good for expanding your abilities 🙃 For example on this one you've got to believe you can stick every move and commit for it. If you don't you'll fall. In the hindsight maybe I should've competed with the pro's. On the other hand, for this particular set and day I would've been completely crushed there 😅 (felt quite ill). Happy to have made finals at the locals category tho. I was quite worried about the fact I could barely do a pull up in iso and absolutely humiliating myself in finals. However it turned out quite okay bcs I topped 3 out of 4 boulders in finals. Lucky me, that the boulders didn't require a lot of pure physical strength. Btw I loved the energy and vibe from the crowd :]

📖: Starting a new chapter and having to find new balances. I've just started studying mathematics and physics in Utrecht. Ngl it feels quite scary to say I'm studying. I tend to blow negative ideas/images up in my head, therefore new things may feel overwhelming at first, for me atleast (not to say I don't like new challenges). It just feels uncomfortable to not know exactly what will happen. You'll never know exactly what will happen. You start doubting yourself whether you have the abilities to do something. The what ifs. From going to high school where I didn't really struggle that much with the actual learning, to university where I actually have to put in more effort to understand certain ideas. A cool analogy I learned: You enter a dark room. You stumble across everything, however if you stay long enough you'll get used to the room and there will be light. However that's no fun, so you enter a new dark room and repeat the same process over and over again. Ig that's life. I just gotta hold on and focus on one step at a time (easier said than done tho). I gotta believe it will turn out to be alright in the end. One way or another...

'Hoppatee'

My first send on the mainwall in the leadhall @nationalclimbingcenter :]

About this route: It's such a cool route. Really comp style with relatively good holds. For me it was all about dialing in the moves to safe as much energy as possible. 1st go: footslip just before the headwall. 2nd go: Too pumped, 2 moves short of the top. 3rd go: sendtime! Bcs it are all moves which require a lot of movement on pretty good holds, I feel like it's by far the easiest route on this wall. Certainly, when comparing it to the very physical, endless overhanging, no rest routes next to this one. Ngl, I'm liking so many routes in this hall.

Quite happy with my progress on lead, for example my fastening my pacing, being more confident (on my first go) and ofc the (power) endurance. A nice milestone so far is noticing ur able to do a route as warmup, which you had to project (do with 3 blocks) 2 months ago (sorry if I'm flexing too much, just quite happy about it 🙃)

It's 'funny' that I'm often only falling bcs of fatigue/pump (which sounds logic ofc), however there aren't that many moves I'm unable to do bcs they're too hard. Besides, what I've noticed on the 'comp' routes is that they're really power endurance demanding, compared to the old school pumpy routes. As in, I'm not really falling bcs of the pump, but due to just being too tired to make the next physical move work; Weirdly, resulting in not being too pumped when back on the ground. Nevertheless, I'm really enjoying them. Will keep doing exposure therapy on lead, hope it keeps working :]

Sidenote: I've really been thinking about what suitable bouldergrades could be for crux parts of certain level routes. However, I'm just not getting any closer to an conclusion, any thoughts? 😅

Thanks for belaying 🧗‍♀️ @helyjuno and recording 🎥 @anniek.achterberg

Gaslighting to the max: 'Ik condenseer van de kou 🥶🥵'

A clip of my first national youth championship lead @neoliettilburg :]

I didn't really see lead as a priority this year. However, I ended up having the best personal results 😅 It's 'funny' when you compare the lead and boulderfield. Where I have to work really hard to improve my boulder results, the field for lead is way less dense. Besides, this comp proves imo how weird comps can be. In the end 1 route deciding it all, bcs the finals was cancelled due to the heat. Imo a very responsible decision. On the other hand, yes ofc I would've wanted to climb that final. Even if I'd scored lower, I would've gained the experience.

This was my first time entering a climbinggym for a comp without knowing what route(s) I was gonna do. When they'd put up the photo's of the routes in the isolation I could hardly read anything. Luckily during the actual observation it became a bit more clear (thanks @jellempieters for reading together). Just before I had to come out, I had a similar feeling to just before strolling to the OR (idk felt weird, def the uncertainty of exactly knowing when you had to go, those 3 min felt like forever) 🙃

Looking back, I maybe could've had a higher pace during the route. A bit of risk, compared to overthinking unnecessary parts. My sweaty hands didn't help with that tbh. After spending too long in the compression section, continued by a footslip/save, I was gassed out. Quite happy about my mind fully thinking about/commiting to that + (throw at the end) when I had to go for it :] I had to climb first which meant I could see everyone else climb. Ngl, it was quite surprising to see multiple climbers falling before me. In the end I ended up tied 3rd, followed by time deciding my definite 4th position (I'll take it, I didn't even expect to end up in a finals position). Still feels like my endurance sucks, however I've really started to like leadclimbing. Congrats to everyone who climbed in this agonising heat today! 🫠

"Het is maar klimmen ...,maar het is ook maar klimmen :)"
Me: Well... NO...

Youth Lead 2 @neolietutrecht (a clip from the finals route)

Last sunday someone asked me wether if I was going to compete today. Up untill then I wasn't sure yet. However, after that question I'd made a decision; I was going to make it my small mission to prepare for this comp in during week :]

Sadly I wasn't totally feeling it today (or yet in general), bcs I wasn't fully able to fight through the pump and make those extra few moves.
It's funny that I was just as nervous as for other national comps, altho after the 3rd clip on the first route I was able to calm them down a lot. Very different from bouldering 🤔
Still, I'm quite happy and a bit suprised I made my first national finals 🤯 The final route felt different from the qualification routes. Bigger move and less stable/confomfortable positions, compared to the clear build up in the other routes. Altho, what would you expect from a finals route? 😅 I was doubting a lot more and felt somehow quite tired from the other climbs. Besides that, the high humidity (felt like I was climbing with soaked shoes 🫠), the fact that I wasn't entirely able to engage my right heel (due to prob a lil injury) and my endurance being shitty didn't help either. Therefore it didn't went great, but the experience is gained. Nevertheless, great setting from headsetter @samvandevorstenbosch !
Happy that I made my 2 mini goals of topping one quali route and getting through my first dyno on lead, in the finals-route :] Onto the next one!

Sidenote: Damn, isolation is boring, feels a bit like a prison 🙃 Next time I'm maybe gonna have to bring a pen and some paper, but idk

'Komaan gast, maakt uzelf kwaad'

Continuing learning how to fully commit to believing and trusting my abilities and beyond

Yay, exams are over! Ngl, it feels weird to have finished this part of school life. It was uncertain till the last minute whether I could join this bleautrip. However, I'm glad I was able to!

As a result of previous session. I was determined to continue trying this one. We woke up quite early, so my appetite wasn't ideal. When we arrived, we only had 3 crashpads 🫠 Just when we decided to leave, 2 Belgians came with another load of crashpads which made it possible to throw in some attempts. After ticking off the 'easier' dyno's it was time for rainbow rocket. I was happy it didn't take ages until I came in the 'progress state'. After about an hour and a few close attempts, I felt the exhaustion. I wasn't reaching as high anymore. I was doubting whether this project would go today. However the progress of the others and that one sentence motivated me to keep believing.
A little rest, a good mindset, full explosivity, and a bit of perfection. From doubt to pure disbelief. I had only reached the ledge with half of my first fingercoats. Now I'm holding the ledge with half of my palm?!

It's imo so cool that this dyno requires much technique, besides only explosive power. There's a slight protruding bump along the middle, which makes it easy to lean outwards instead of staying close to the wall. It's the balance between exploding into the wall and keeping enough momentum upwards. After I sended it, I wanted to know if it was pure luck or if something had actually changed. I noticed I was committing differently. Coming a tiny bit more over my foot before going upwards was the difference. Luckily, for the top camerashot, I was able to do it again after ±5 go's. It wasn't pure luck :]

Funfact: @corgoethals sended it immediately after me, choo choo! 🚂😅

Thanks for the cool trip everyone! Despite the warm weather, I was able to climb pretty hard. Looking forward to next one!

Sendtime!

Really felt like this one was reel worthy. I may delete it later, idk.

Staying on the same energy as yesterday. A 'chill' session with some pure bouldering @boulderhalenergiehaven, (until I really wanted to get this one 😅)
Ngl, I'm so damn happy with this one!!! :] From barely being able to start to unlocking new moves. Spend 2 sessions not being able to do a single move, until today. Somehow I never read this one as a toecatch until someone told me their idea, which sounded very logical and indeed was the solution 😅Some goes for the 2nd move, which I'd never read as a pogo. Sadly I don't have any footage of the previous sessions. This one may be one of my hardest boulders I've done so far. It's atleast one which I had to work hard for :] Always funny that once you send it, it doesn't feel that hard anymore. Ig that's the curse of tricky/low percentage moves 🙃

Btw a little update on my knee. Luckily it's all fine, I just need to take it easy/be careful with pulling for the coming week or so 😮‍💨

Thanks for the encouragement tom, the music choice Emily and ofc thank you for the support @allezbouldering! by @spideyelectro

Change, it has it's benefits and disadvantages 🙃

Had a very nice session @boulderhal_luchthaven :] Due to kingsday it was very quiet, which was nice imo. Sadly I was a bit limited in what I was able to climb. Ig the saying goes: Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Yesterday I 'popped' my knee during a pretty intensive heel hook 🥲
Hope it's not too bad 🙏 Luckily I was able to work on my antistyle a bit.

About this boulder. A not too difficult great calm compy slab imo. I've noticed that because of all the comp training there are a lot of boulders I'm either able to do in a few attempts or in multiple sessions. It was nice working on one for like ±1 hour and noticing moves start to feel easier and easier.

📖: Why am I so anxious for (my) future? How will I navigate in a modern mature world? A world with so many different opinions, viewpoints and voices. For some reason it feels like there's changing so much. Did I ever learn who I am? Idk, I feel, complex. Slowly but surely I'm starting to understand myself. For example I've learned that I'm quiet vunerable to emotion and that I spend quiet a lot of (unnecessary) time in my head. Maybe one of the reasons my captions are so wordy. Some emotions/feelings just feel so impossible to describe with words.

It feels like I'm leaving my childhood behind me. Despite the fact that I look back at it with a comfortable smile, there are a lot of things I (will) miss and (will) regret. People I will never see again, things I'll never do again; In exchange of new responsibilities and new experiences. Understanding that I will have to make decisions. Maybe a relatively bigger change for me, compared to other peers, but idk. There's just so much that went by in my unconsciousness. Going from just doing the things I like, to actively choosing for something (or not).

Next stop final exams. Why does it feel so crazy that I'll never have a 'standard' lesson anymore? I will miss them. Currently I just feel low on energy. Ig the worrying is taking it's toll on me. Anyways, enough journalling for now 😅

Thanks for the nice calm session (🎥:)@enyatangli @enthovenjilles and @noahdereijke :]

'Ja, het gaat wel prima, want kben aant klimmen dus ja 🙃'

Made a little final again in the new @beest.boulders gym in Delft. It's been a while since my skin (for the non climbers, fingertips) got tormented this badly, altho I loved the slopey boulders :] Quali went quite okay. Gave some pretty good fights, which led to me getting all the zones and some tops. I went to finals with 2 bleeding tips and during finals I was pretty much empty.
First boulder went down fine. On the slab my legs were just too tired and I couldn't find the right bodyposition in time (first go best go). 3rd (favorite) boulder felt so cool, however I read it wrong during my 4 min. sadly and I was too tired. Still gave it my all tho and I'm quite happy I could (in a comp). Btw, maybe climbing 8 days in a row isn't ideal or smth 😅

📖: Contradicting my last statement, I feel like climbing is just such a good solution to helping/guiding me through thougher times. It's funny/ironic, bcs last time I wrote that I shouldn't be putting too much pressure on myself, which I still believe to be very true. Yet, only to realise it's harder to actually do and live it, compared to just elaborating it rationally. Ig that's what's been bothering me for some time, in life in general, lately it was just a bit too much I think 🙁

Even when surrounded by nice driven people in a climbing gym, I feel so much lighter, more content and a overall calmness in my head.
It's so weird/paradoxical that the things we tend to advice others or feel/understand the most; Are the things we struggle with ourselves for the most part.

Sidenote: During observation on the last purple boulder I got some immediate flashbacks to my time in Graz. Ig I remember my favorite holdset again 🥲

Thanks everyone for da cool comp day, I appreciated it a lot! :]

Ps: Don't forget to bring ur own cuttlery, since some gyms don't allow u to borrow theirs 😭 (thank u Sten for saving me 🫶)
Banana's are also goated btw 🍌😂
