A book I wish more people would read. 🤍

Yayati by V. S. Khandekar

The first book I ever read in my mother tongue — and perhaps that is one of the reasons this book feels so deeply personal to me.

Yayati is not just a retelling of an ancient story. It is a book about desire, love, pleasure, sacrifice, ambition, self-control and the strange ways we keep wanting more, even when we already have enough.

What stayed with me most was how human its questions feel.

How much is enough?
Can desire ever truly be satisfied?
What do we owe the people we love?
And what happens when we spend our lives chasing happiness outside ourselves?

Some of the lines in this book stopped me completely. I found myself rereading them, sitting with them, and thinking about them long after I had closed the book.

And there is a reason this novel has remained such an important work in Marathi literature. Yayati received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1960 and the Jnanpith Award in 1974. (Sahitya Akademi)

But for me, the most special thing about reading it was experiencing those thoughts in Marathi — my mother tongue.

So I wanted to share six lines that stayed with me.

The Marathi comes first, because some words simply feel different in the language that feels like home.
I’ve added English translations underneath so that more people can access the meaning behind them.

If you haven’t read Yayati yet, I hope this makes you curious enough to pick it up. 🤍

Have you read Yayati? If yes, which thought or line stayed with you?

The porcupine dilemma 🦔
We want to be close. But close hurts.
So we pull away. Then we get cold.
Schopenhauer wrote about it in 1851 — porcupines huddling for warmth, pricking each other when too close, freezing when too far.
We still live it. Every friendship, every relationship, every family — same dance. Finding that distance where you’re close enough to feel warm, but not so close you draw blood.
The people worth keeping aren’t the ones who never prick you.
They’re the ones who keep adjusting the distance instead of walking away.
Inspired by Schopenhauer’s parable, Parerga and Paralipomena (1851), Vol II, §396 — public domain. Modern take is mine.
Want to read Schopenhauer’s original 150-word parable? Comment PORCUPINE — I’ll DM you the link to the full public-domain essay.
#porcupinedilemma #schopenhauer #relationshippsychology #philosophyofmind #psycology Cover slide with warm ivory paper texture and soft snow in lower third. Large elegant black serif text reads: THE PORCUPINE DILEMMA with hedgehog emoji, and below in italic: How close is too close? Three realistic North American porcupines huddled together in snow, quills overlapping, small in frame as a visual metaphor. Some books stay with you because of the story.

The Palace of Illusions stayed with me because of Panchali.

I went into this book knowing the Mahabharata. I didn’t expect to keep thinking about the way Panchali saw herself, love, power, waiting, friendship, and the idea of destiny.

I underlined so many passages, but these six are the ones I keep coming back to.

Not necessarily because they’re the most beautiful lines in the book—but because each one made me stop and think.

The one about the heart.
The one about waiting for a man to avenge you.
The one about power.
The one about destiny.

And especially those quieter moments when Panchali wasn’t a queen or a wife or a woman caught in an epic war—she was simply Panchali.

That’s what I think stayed with me most.

If you’ve read The Palace of Illusions, which one stayed with you?

Tell me your number — 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6. 🤍

And if you haven’t read it yet, I hope you get to experience Panchali’s voice for yourself.

Save this for the nights you need Panchali again.

I live by you…” and suddenly, every other fictional man became irrelevant. 🖤🥹

Xaden Riorson really said love isn’t a choice, a rule, or a promise. It’s her. It’s always been her. And he’d burn every law in existence before letting the world decide what they can be to each other. 🐉🖤

“I am yours and you are mine.” And that’s the kind of love that ruins you for everyone else. 😭❤️‍🔥

What if the beings humanity created to survive became the very beings it learned to fear? 👀

Rakshas: The Fall of Halcyon by M. Ninad takes us into a future where Earth is freezing after a catastrophic change in its orbit. Humanity clings to survival inside the Domes of Halcyon, built over the frozen ruins of Mumbai, while Mars offers hope for a new beginning.

At the heart of this story is Reckon, an engineered Rakshas whose mission carries stakes far beyond survival. His actions could help reunite his surrogate mother with her exiled husband on Mars, but failure could ignite a war between humans and Rakshas.

What I found interesting is how the story brings together dystopian science fiction, artificial intelligence, survival, and the question of what truly makes someone a monster.

I enjoyed the premise and the world Ninad has created, but the second half was definitely more interesting for me. I found myself more invested as the stakes grew, and I wanted to know where everything was heading. There’s so much potential in this world, and I’m genuinely curious to see how the story unfolds from here.

⭐ Rating: 4.2/5

And now I’m left waiting for the second book! I can’t wait to return to Halcyon and find out what’s next for Reckon and the world around him. 🥹📚

A big thank you to Ninad for sending me a copy of Rakshas: The Fall of Halcyon. Thank you for letting me experience this story! ❤️

Because sometimes… the real monsters aren’t the ones we create. 🖤#RakshasTheFallOfHalcyon #MNinad #IndianScienceFiction #BookReview #BookstagramIndia by @spinedeep

Sometimes love isn’t grand gestures.
it’s just being held when you don’t have words.
no explaining, no fixing. just here.
#softlove #thoughtfullove #aestheticquotes #relationshipquotes #care

The safest feeling.
being held without having to explain why 🤍

Care isn’t always said out loud.
sometimes it’s a blanket tucked in,
a tea made without asking,
staying when it’s easier to leave.
actions > words, always. Oil painting of a couple sitting on a floor hugging closely. A woman in a cream sweater rests her head on a man's chest with eyes closed. Some books make you fall in love with the characters. Others make you wish you could protect them from everything life throws their way. Keeping 13 did both. 🥹❤️‍🩹

Johnny Kavanagh is the boy everyone expects to have it all figured out. A talented rugby player with a future full of possibilities, he’s carrying pressures that people around him don’t always see.

And then there’s Shannon Lynch, a girl who’s endured more than anyone her age should have to. She’s spent so much of her life trying to survive that learning to trust, feel safe, and believe she’s worthy of love becomes its own journey.

What makes their story so beautiful is that their relationship goes beyond the usual boy-meets-girl romance. Johnny becomes a source of safety for Shannon, but she also sees the parts of him that everyone else overlooks. Beneath his talent and confidence is a boy who needs understanding, too.

As they navigate first love, family struggles, painful experiences, and the challenges of growing up, their relationship is tested in ways that make every quiet moment of happiness feel precious.

What I loved most is how Chloe Walsh shows that love doesn’t magically erase pain. Sometimes, it’s about having someone who stands beside you while you’re still figuring out how to heal.

Johnny and Shannon’s story is messy, tender, heartbreaking, and full of moments that make you root for them with your whole heart.

They’re not just learning how to love each other. They’re learning what it means to feel safe, to be understood, and to have someone who chooses to stay. ❤️

If Binding 13 introduced you to Johnny and Shannon, Keeping 13 takes you deeper into their world—and makes it even harder to let them go.

📚 Keeping 13 by Chloe Walsh
💔 Themes: First love, emotional healing, family struggles, resilience, and finding safety in another person.

Tell me, did Johnny and Shannon steal your heart, too? 🥹

I came for the romantasy. I stayed for Kingfisher, the magic, and the absolute chaos. 🫠🖤

📖 Quicksilver by Callie Hart

Saeris Fane has spent her life surviving in the scorching desert city of Zilvaren. But one fateful encounter throws her into Yvelia, a frozen Fae realm filled with dangerous magic, secrets, and a conflict far bigger than herself.

And that’s where Kingfisher enters the picture. A ruthless Fae warrior known as Death, with a sharp tongue, secrets of his own, and chemistry with Saeris that had me INVESTED. 😭

What I loved most? The worldbuilding, the alchemy, the political intrigue, and the enemies-to-lovers tension. The banter and reluctant proximity had me hooked, but there’s a whole fantasy adventure unfolding beyond the romance.

The worldbuilding takes some time to settle into, but once everything clicks, it’s so easy to get invested in the story.

And Kingfisher? I get it. I REALLY get it. 🖤

✨ Read this if you love: Dangerous Fae, morally complicated characters, forbidden magic, sharp banter, and romantasy that gives you plenty to obsess over.

💬 Have you read Quicksilver yet, or is Kingfisher still waiting on your TBR?

Some stories remind you that love is never as simple as it looks. 🤍

✨ Love is NOT Child’s PLAY is a theatrical drama about love, family, secrets, and the choices we make when the heart gets complicated.

At the centre is Satbir, a man caught between two women and a past shaped by the generation before him. What makes the story interesting is how love keeps colliding with family expectations, hidden truths, and the passage of time.

I loved the way the story treats love—not as something soft or effortless, but as something messy, restless, courageous, and sometimes painful.

And that idea stayed with me:

“Love is not for the faint-hearted.”

A thoughtful read for anyone who enjoys romance with family drama, secrets, emotional dilemmas, and a touch of mystery.

⭐ My rating: 4/5

Would you choose love when the truth could change everything? 👀

You know that pause?

I had to literally close the book and stare at my wall for 5 minutes.

That chapter just… stayed.

Mine was the last book I read — I’m still not over that one line.

What book did that to you? The one where you had to stop and breathe?

Tell me. I need to add it to my TBR. 👇 #Bookstagram #BookRecommendations #BookLovers #Quicksilver #RomantasyBooks by @spinedeep

A love story that is so much more than a love story.❤️Dear Zahira, With Love by Sachin Garg was one of those books for me.

I went into this expecting a love story, but I came away feeling like I had read something much bigger than that.
Ghulam Ali and Zahira’s love is at the heart of the story, but what really got to me was everything surrounding it — Partition, distance, religion, society, circumstances and all the things that can make loving someone so much harder than it should be.

And Zahira… I don’t think I’ll forget her easily.

She felt like such a strong, complicated and ahead-of-her-time woman, especially considering the world she was living in. Her struggles as a woman, her challenges at work, her disability and the life circumstances she has to navigate made me think about how differently women had to fight for their choices back then.

What I loved about Ghulam Ali was that he wasn’t written as a perfect man either. He is flawed, complicated and emotional, and I found myself thinking about his choices even after I put the book down.

There were moments when I felt angry, moments when I felt heartbroken, and moments when I simply wanted things to be easier for these characters.

And that’s probably what stayed with me the most — this doesn’t feel like a love story happening in isolation. It feels like a love story caught in the middle of history, society and circumstances. The book made me think about the people affected by the choices of others.

Sachin Garg has given me a story that made me feel, think and question — and those are always the books I remember.

If you’re looking for a romance that gives you more than romance, especially if you enjoy historical fiction, emotional love stories and stories set around Partition, I would definitely recommend this one.

My rating: ⭐️ 4.4/5

The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden — ⭐ 4.1/5

What if the man who seems perfect… is exactly the man you should be afraid of?

Sydney Shaw is 34, single, and exhausted by the New York dating scene. Then she meets Tom. He’s handsome, charming, attentive, and a doctor. For once, Sydney feels like she may have finally found the kind of man she’s been waiting for.

But when unsettling things start happening around her, that feeling of having found something perfect slowly turns into something much darker.

What I loved about The Boyfriend is how it plays with trust and suspicion. It takes something as ordinary as dating and turns it into a constant question of who can you actually believe? The story keeps you looking twice at every interaction and wondering whether Sydney’s instincts are protecting her—or misleading her.

It’s fast-paced, easy to get into, and packed with the kind of short chapters that make you think, “Just one more…” until suddenly you’re halfway through the book. 👀

And just when you think you understand where the story is going, it gives you another reason to question your assumptions.

If you love psychological thrillers with dating, secrets, suspicion, twists, and an unsettling “something isn’t right” feeling, put this one on your TBR. 🖤

My rating: ⭐ 4.1/5
