If you’re heading to the Gallery this weekend, make sure you bring your young folk along to make their own puppet in our new shadow puppet theatre from our brilliant studio holder Zoë!

Our Gallery craft activities are always free to drop in, and suitable for all ages (child-free adults, please get stuck in too).

Come along and get creative 🔦

The Gallery, shop and Tea Room are open 10am - 4pm Tuesday to Sunday. Closed on Mondays.

More about Zoë:

Zoë Eady is a multimedia artist and maker of things. The focus of her practice is on making beautiful and engaging physical objects (glass, wood, plastics, paper) through experimentation and problem solving. She draws influence from illustration, narrative, and observational daily drawing. At the heart of her practice runs the reoccurring themes of nature, and play.

Forest Shadows invites you to create your own shadow characters and stories in this illuminated woodland theatre.

How it was made:

Zoë combines both digital and analogue processes in her creative practice. Every part of this silhouette design started life as an individual hand cut paper shape. She later translated them into laser cut wood for strength and durability.

She explains that doing everything digitally makes her work look lifeless and flat, whilst doing everything the analogue way limits the scope of what can be achieved. ‘The trick is to find a balance and use it as a tool and not a medium.’

10/10 atmosphere at the Mills today for our Heritage Festival & Leeds Open Studios.

All the weekend's activities are taking place 10am - 4pm today and tomorrow (Sat 12th & Sun 13th), so come along and get involved! If you visited already today, come back tomorrow for 5 new pop-up artist studios in the Main Yard.

There are just a few spots left on our Heritage Tours and Accessible Family-Friendly Tours tomorrow, so head to our website to guarantee your spot.

All other activities are free to take part. See the weekend booklet online to plan your visit.

Leeds Open Studios starts tomorrow! The bunting’s up, Kim & Mel’s exhibition drinks are prepped and Tom is mentally preparing to build 12 pop-up studios for our visiting artists.

Come along to the Mills for our Heritage Festival weekend, see the studios of our almost 50 resident artists, buy work from Leeds-Based artists popping up in the Main Yard, eat and drink at stalls from some of your favourite Mill businesses and much much more.

Main activities will take place 10:00 - 16:00 on Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th September.

Come And visit me and my buddies at @spinningmillstudios at @sunnybankmills for the Open Studios weekend, Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September 🎨

There are three sets of artist studios, there’s us at Spinning Mill, there’s @redlanemillstudios and @the_twisting all at Sunny Bank Mills in Farsley, Leeds

We are open 10-4 both days. There’s lots to see, as it’s also the Heritage Weekend - plus there are places to eat and drink, shops, free parking, and the Gallery to visit too.

I’ve got paintings for sale, and will be here ready to say hello and show you where I work!

The exhibition opens on the first day of Open Studios at Sunny Bank Mills, and is located in the loft above the Spinning Mills Studios. (Access by stairs).

Come and see all the amazing colourful paintings that the artist duo created together over the last 12 months!

Congrats to studio neighbours @helen_dryden and @brisbanetaylor who have both had work selected for this year’s Leeds Summer Group Show

Presented at @leedsplayhouse 1-30th May, the annual exhibition showcases contemporary art from Leeds and across the UK

It is part of part of Situation Leeds, a city-wide arts festival that runs from 11- 24 May

The Playhouse building is open Mon - Sat, 10 am - 6 pm
