The Sac State chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists’ second-ever Open Mic Night on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022, was a hit!

We had over 10 performers and finished the night off with some professor-dominated Kahoot where there were Starbucks gift cards up for grabs (that were later generously donated).

1. Vice president of finances Emma Hall and our public relations, marketing, and advertising manager Mercy Sosa employed a pillar of democracy, voting, to name their pumpkin “Fil Reese’s Pieces.”

2. Physical therapy grad student Ryan gave the audience the condensed version of a very detailed presentation of the foot.

3. Journalism major and State Hornet managing editor Keyshawn Davis karaoked “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen.

4. Computer science major Phuc delineated a very satisfying math problem and made the entire audience solve it together.

5. Communications professor Rebecca Gardner read mean professor reviews and provided colorful commentary after each one.

6. SPJ president Alex Muegge performed an original song lamenting about the woes of college.

7. Sac State alumni Mack sang a karaoke version of “Starboy” by The Weeknd.

8. Kahoot Winner, 1st place 🥇 Communications professor Fernando Gallo.

9. Kahoot Winner, second place 🥈 Journalism major and State Hornet podcast editor James Fife.

10. Kahoot Winner, third place 🥉 Communications professor and CSUS SPJ adviser Phillip Reese.

Not pictured:
Journalism major and State Hornet editor-in-chief solved two Rubik’s Cubes—the first he completed 1:16 and the second in 1:09.
