About 100 people attended Tuesday night’s “Reporting on Alternative Facts” panel discussion hosted by @SacState’s Society of Professional Journalists (@spj.csus) and The State Hornet in Del Norte Hall 1004. The panelists, which included A.G. Block as moderator, Chris Nichols from Politifact California, Christopher Cadelago from the Sacramento Bee and Melanie Mason from the Los Angeles Times, explored how journalism plays its role in current days’ politics and explained the meaning behind “alternative facts” as well as how to combat them. The panelists also offered attendees insights into their own career, which ranges from covering local news to presidential elections. At the end of the discussion, The State Hornet hosted our own open-house at our newsroom in Del Norte Hall 1006, where attendees from the earlier event were treated to pizzas and refreshments.
