Spookystack dives into the eerie, shadowy side of electroclash in the music video premiere of his newly released track ‘Paper Skin’ - out now on House of Feelings Records !!

Spookystack is Nelson Fisher, & it was his DFA-inspired production that first caught my attention, so it came as no surprise when I found out his band, Public Circuit, just opened for LCD Soundsystem. No doubt he picked up a thing or two from watching the legend himself, as Fisher arrives on the NYC scene already collecting major accolades & music scene XP.

The distant industrial world Fisher has created on ‘Paper Skin’ sounds both unsettling and addictive, with its catchy chaos nicely grounded by the drums and main bass synth. Fisher’s vocals hit with the same cool intensity as Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode, giving the track a dark, distinctive spin on the electroclash genre. The unpredictable, glitchy Crystal Castles infused instrumentation & crunchy 8-bit accents turn the volume up a notch (preferably to eleven), pairing perfectly with the black & white creepypasta aesthetics of the music video - featuring a killer clown that looks like it wandered straight out of David Lynch’s Black Lodge.

On his new single “Paper Skin,” as well as his forthcoming EP, Spookystack is dressed to kill (metaphorically of course) with slinky melodic bangers that make Fisher another indie artist to keep on your radar.

I’m fully locked into Spookystack, make sure you are as well by checking out the music video premiere of ‘Paper Skin’ - out now on House of Feelings Records <3

My friend @spookystack just released ‘Clown’, an EP that sounds like a young DFA-er with a fresh coat of paint, before he started mourning his lost edge - out today on @houseoffeelings !!!

Somewhere between post-punk, electro, & the sweaty dance floor is where you’ll find Spookystack. Spooky has been propelled forward through the underground this year, both solo & with his band @publiccircuitband - who recently opened for @lcdsoundsystem & then @lipcritic at a sold-out show at Music Hall of Williamsburg. I’ve been digging his punk-electronic sound so it’s really cool to see this emerging indie artist’s EP come to life.

Spooky’s new music video for EP standout ‘Deep Cut’ is a track I’ve been hyped to share since I got a sneak preview a few week’s ago. I love the song’s tight, punchy 80s drums juxtaposed with the modern glitchiness of the fills. Obviously, I was going to love the simple DIY music video. The photo booth concept is an idea after my own heart, featuring light-up shutter shades (remember when I wrote an essay on how we should bring back MacBook Photo Booth selfies in 2022?)

Spooky was inspired by hearing @clairo ‘s ‘Pretty Girl’ in a coffee shop & thinking back to her iconic music video, which he hadn’t revisited since his teenage years. The video also taps into what it was like for him as an early-2000s kid, taking photo booth pix on his computer. As Spooky explains, “Art should be fun & bring out the child in us. It doesn’t need a big budget or fancy crew to be meaningful.”

The five offerings on Spookystack’s ‘Clown’ EP are molded from the same clay as his previous, post-punk indebted dance music, but with a new sheen. These are punky electronic pop songs, ready for a much larger audience.

Spooky, congrats !!! hope u remember me when you’re a mega famous rockstar <333

OUT NOW: U & ME by @spookystack
From the remarkable “Clown” EP, out 7.30 right here on @houseoffeelings

Spooky himself on the track and video:

“3 years ago I went to Berlin with my best friends and I documented the trip with this shitty little mini dv camera I had at the time. I completely forgot about the footage but stumbled across it one day while clearing up my hard drive. Immediately I was like yea this has to go in a music video. I was just about to go back to Europe but this time on tour with my band, so I decided to shoot more footage while I was out there and blend it with the clips from the previous trip. I edited it all in the back of our tour van, on Ableton, DIY till I die. The video kind of made itself - and I think it ended up unintentionally being this sort of playful back and forth between past and present me. Past me living in the moment and present me singing about that nostalgia of it all. I don’t think i really knew what U & ME was about until i made this video.”

More soon from this amazing artist
