Last week’s newsletter seemed to get so many of you, with late 90s early agency life in Soho nostalgia swirling through the comments. I loved all your memories and messages, so here’s a part 2 of sorts…

My boss was @louislygo , still a friend now and one of the most talented artists I’ve ever met. As creative director he had assembled a team of young talent that seemed to have been collected rather than hired, and he let the kids run at things.

He talked about cool European art or incorporated graphics from The Clash and told us off for not going to enough exhibitions during work time. Being berated for not sneaking off to an exhibition whilst getting paid for it, how cool is that.

Belated post around this years Edinburgh TV Festival, the last in Scotland and about 20 years since I last spoke there.

Thankful to the superb @adamjhawkins and @flanaganniall who curated such an outstanding event, including rather special dinners with Netflix gang and a McTaggert supper with some very clever people.

Also got to get up close and personal with the irrepressible @eshap_tv who gave me one of the easiest host / interview gigs, with every answer an intellectual gem.

I’ve been told off for big work moments not being on my own Insta. So this was one.

Back in April (I know) we took the newsletter to a live room with a sold out audience for the first time.

An electric evening at the Rio cinema in Dalston, which had every emotion imaginable from stories, anecdotes insights and magical tales told.

For 18 months I’ve been writing about our yearning for smaller, special moments of human connection. Memories nothing to do with likes, clicks or the scroll.

Last week week sat in the gardens of BMG’s beautiful Cannes villa, it all went quiet just the water turning over in the pool and right there in the moment, this was that magic I’ve been banging on about.

Serge spoke about the younger ones in the crowd, half of them not even born when their first LP landed.. who wouldn’t have believed 2004 when iPods ruled, and a thing called Skype let you make a call over the internet.

Revival, reinvention, and longevity is conversation brands are aching to learn from, so I asked him how does he do that?

Those songs people take on as their own. The jackets the kids inherit. The moment in a quiet garden that stays with you long after you left it.
