Hi, I’m Marije, the person behind Spot the Dot. I’m Dutch and living in Austria. I work on skin cancer awareness campaigns all around the world, in 10 languages. I like to do things out of the box and make my work fun while connecting it to my own personal interests. That is why you might sometimes see a (black) metal meme, a skate deck, or a street art mural dedicated to skin cancer awareness. Why not combine something heavy with something fun? Do I really hate the sun? Well, yes and no. But that is not the point. I was never into sunbathing or tanning. I was always a nerdy kid who spent most days indoors, listening to loud music and reading comics. Still, I developed melanoma and did not get it checked in time. I did not even realize skin cancer could be deadly until doctors found a melanoma on my leg and discussed life expectancy with me. That moment sparked my mission with Spot the Dot. I run the non-profit on my own in my free time, with the help of many lovely people and organizations. DM me if you want to help or grab a coffee. New campaign by Stichting Melanoom: Huid-Check-Tijd! As many of you know, I collaborate with (patient) organisations across different countries in my quest for more skin cancer awareness. This time, I had the pleasure of contributing to a new national campaign by the Dutch Melanoma Foundation @stichtingmelanoom, together with my partner in crime @massiemantle. I did not realise skin cancer could be deadly until the doctors started to talk about my life expectations.
