Perilla Kimchi Workshop! Vegan & Gluten Free Join us for a day of community kimchi making In the scenic open access community garden based in the heart of Stratford with deep historical roots. Where our local gardens Dr Zhen & Hua are growing an abundance of perilla leaves which they’ve kindly offered to share with us for this workshop. Perilla leaves are widely used in east and south East Asian cooking. Their bold aromatic flavours are a great addition to any dish making it a wonderful ingredient to use for kimchi. We’ll be adapting a recipe by the amazing Maangchi. Harvesting! Prepping vegetables! Mixing kimchi sauce! Combining with perilla leaves! Jarring up the finished product! A beautiful way to enjoy your Sunday - exploring a traditional culinary craft using fresh organic ingredients whilst cooking together in a welcoming community setting. Please bring jars! Spring Cafe will be providing our infamous toasties, delicious muffins and tarts at @creeksidediscoverycentre Open Day 2026! Open from 11am - 3pm. Expect a fun day of activities, talks, educational and creative workshops aaaand delicious food and sweet treats! What a fantastic day! The sun shone down on us perfectly as we celebrated the Summer Solstice and Zumi and Funmi’s Earth Day in the stunning setting of Abbey Gardens. We had the most wonderful weather and a truly beautiful celebration filled with the warmth of family, friends, and our incredible local community. From the rhythmic drumming at the Ruins Stage to the children hunting for shimmering gemstones and creating fairy houses, the energy was pure joy. My heart is so incredibly full today. Looking out at Abbey Gardens over the weekend and seeing more than 100 of our beautiful neighbors, friends, and families come together for World Bee Day… it reminded me just how powerful and vital our community spaces really are. We didn’t just host an event; we gathered to build beautiful, lasting memories and to cultivate a deeper, collective care for the tiny creatures that keep our world blooming. Abbey Gardens truly felt alive. I’m still smiling thinking about the wonderful Ninira, whose beautiful voice and violin music floated so gracefully through the air, and the ballet dancers in their stunning costumes who looked like living flowers moving through the lawns. Watching the pure joy of the kids during the treasure hunt as they learned how bees see the world. Community is all about sharing knowledge. We leaned into nature’s gifts, crafting with fresh flowers from our garden and capturing the sunshine itself in our cyanotype workshop to make sun-painted pictures. I loved seeing everyone gather at the herbal tea workshop, whispering and nodding as we learned how to use local herbs to care for our health and well-being. The energy at the beekeeping stand was pure magic. Our wonderful beekeeper, Monika, took us on an incredible dive into the bee world, shifting curiosity into genuine awe. Together, we got to take a real look at the apiary, watching these magnificent, tiny creatures work so tirelessly to bring pollen and honey back home. We chatted, laughed, rolled our own beeswax candles, and tasted three completely unique honeys right from our Abbey Gardens apiary—with so many of you taking a sweet jar of this year's fresh spring honey home with you! Events like this are the heartbeat of a community. They remind us that we are all interconnected—to each other, and to the environment we share. When we take the time to pause, learn, and appreciate how hard our bees workfor us, we naturally want to protect them. Lets carey this warmth and knowledge forward and help our pollinators by planting bee-friendly flowers. What a fantastic day at Abbey Gardens. Huge thank you to the incredible team from State Street for joining us for their CSR day. Honestly, we couldn't asked for a more hard-working, joyful group of people. We got so much done, and improvement in the gardens is already visible. We tackled everything from weeding the wildflower beds to clearing the fence line and giving our olive tree some breathing room. We even got some fresh lavender into the ground. Here's a look at what we achieved together: * Build brand-new bee boxes and frames, and prepared a special seed pockets for World Bee Day. * Sifted a mountain of compost tocreplenish our flower beds, trees and greengouse plants. * Planted baby artichokes and sowed wildflower seeds across the garden. * Weeded the main beds paths and created a beautiful circle from the wood logs. The energy was just infectious. Not only did everyone work with a smile, but they were so thoughtful - even bringing all the tools back to the workshop so we didn't have to hunt for them at the end of the day. The highlight for many was definitely cooling down with some of our fresh cold-brew mint and cleaver tea - the perfect reward for a job well done. State Street, you are absolute legends. Thank you for helping us to make our garden more beautiful and for being such a joy to work with.
