Together with @collectiveinkfiction and @zsofialazarwrites, we're bringing you more of my favourite book I’ve read this year.

Zsófia Lázár is a London-based writer who draws inspiration from modern history and Hungarian folklore. Her poetic writing blends cultural, historical, and fantastical themes, influenced by her studies and her lifelong love of storytelling.

I already shared a longer, more personal review, but I really wanted to recommend it again. It is a poetic ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ read, that will transport you into an immersive world filled with magic, sisterhood, and political intrigue. Dark, but hopeful. Tragic, but beautiful.

As someone raised in southern Slovakia, where our and Hungarian culture meet, this book captured the very essence of the myths and folklore it promises. It felt especially meaningful, because for me, it felt like home.

Synopsis:
Once, there were many. Now, twenty years after the invasion of the Enhavirrim, the witches of Zöldgömb have fled their peaceful existences, hunted by the Virre church that condemns superstition and magic. They hide in the shadows, their ancient power a threat to those who would see it erased.

As the Burnings spread and fear takes root, Rozalin of Enhavirre leaves behind the city of her birth - and the blood-stained past that clings to it. Haunted by visions of witches long dead, she journeys east, where survival is as uncertain as the shifting valleys and suspicious townsfolk. With the reluctant aid of a grim Zöldgömbi Hunter, Rozalin must confront the truth hidden in her dreams and unravel the mystery of her connection to the fabled covens of Zöldgömb.

To earn the coven’s trust and claim a place to call home, Rozalin must complete three legendary tasks. In doing so, however, she will face the undeniable truth: that she cannot hide from the horrors of her heritage, nor from her destiny.

This beauty comes out on 29 Sept. 2026. You can find your copy here: https://www.collectiveinkbooks.com/ourstreet-books/our-books/witchsong

CLEOPATRA AND FRANKENSTEIN by Coco Mellors

“The hole is loneliness,” said Cleo quietly.
“Why’s that?” said Audrey.
“You can’t stand above someone and tell them to get out of it,” she said. “Or teach or preach it out of them. You have to be in it with them

This book has been sitting on my TBR for over a year, and somehow, it came to me at exactly the right time. Changing cities, jobs, people, trying to figure out where I want to be versus where I need to be - it really came to me at the right time.

Without spoiling too much, it was exactly the kind of fiction I love. While reading, I felt like I had lived those few years alongside these characters.

I made a particularly deep connection with Eleanor, as she sometimes felt like a mirror to my own thoughts. Santiago, Cleo and Andreas brought a kind of vulnerability that we often forget is hidden somewhere inside all of us, and that touched me deeply. And with Frank, I can only say, I felt it all. Some chapters brought envy, others admiration, disgust or even pity. When the themes surrounding his addiction began to emerge, I almost stopped reading because it hit far too close to home. But now, I’m glad I gave this story a chance. And I think you should, too.

I’ve seen people say, that this book is perfect for people in their 20s, because those years are messy and crucial for figuring ourselves out. But I disagree. This is a book for everyone, at any life stage. Because the whole “figuring myself out” process never really ends and we never know who we’ll be on the other side of our next decision.

AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT by Courtney Welsh

I enjoyed this book even more than I anticipated I would. It was light-hearted but still emotional, with realistic characters, no spice, and the kind of romance that was just so easy to get into. And as a bonus, the dialogue and situations were genuinely hilarious. I found myself laughing through most of the chapters.

What I especially loved was how realistically everything was portrayed. The divorce, the relationships, the anxiety… none of it felt exaggerated or forced. It made the story feel refreshing, relatable, and incredibly easy to read. I genuinely felt like I was travelling alongside the characters, experiencing Ireland with them.

Overall, this was such a lovely, comforting romance and exactly the kind of book I believe everyone would enjoy.

Publishing date: 2nd March 2027

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thanks to @netgalley , @thomasnelsonfiction and @courtneywalsh for letting me experience this story.
