Which country does the best shawarma? I’ve spent 10 years making it in Leeds but never spent a day finding out if I’m doing it right. Bite Twice rated Sqew… but what did they actually give us? Bite Twice are some of the biggest, and more importantly most respected food reviewers in the country. They’re known for proper, no-nonsense reviews. No freebies, no favours, and they always pay their bill. Well, they came to Sqew! Sent us a pic of them inside and then… crickets for 24 hours. The Best Sqew Yet! 🔥 Sqew donst often do menu updates… So when it does, it means something. I just got back from Amman, Jordan 🇯🇴 On a full shawarma safari. I was honestly left gobsmacked. I knew straight away… We had to bring this back to Sqew. This new menu? It’s the result of that trip. If you thought Sqew was great before, get ready. This is, by a mile - the best Sqew yet. The best hummus in the world? Abu Mahjoub - a quaint 50-year-old takeaway tucked away in the dusty streets of Amman, Jordan - might just be it. Can we replicate that here at Sqew? No. The setting, the culture, the history, the heritage, that belongs to Jordan. Can we be inspired? Yes. And that I was. Super smooth, rich Lebanese olive oil, and green shatta bringing a touch of heat and citrus. Perfect. Authentic. Always. taken in Sqew by @sqew.uk

A Love Letter To Jordan 🇯🇴 I’ve been running Sqew for several years and in the eye of many we’re “successful” But to me, I never felt it. We had the brand, location, fit out, food, team and some of the best customers you could wish for and yet, I couldn’t settle. Couldn’t rest, never felt complete. I knew despite the awards and busy Resturants we could do better……. Recently I was invited to Jordan by chance r fate…… and that was it! The people, the culture, the generosity , the hospitality - it struck me. But beyond that, the shawarma, the falafel, the cheese, the Saj and shatta. In those few short days I found what I’d be searching for all this time. On my arrival home we got to work. Left no stone unturned and in 3 months we implemented all I’d learned. To say a weight had been lifted is an understatement. We’ve discovered the real Sqew. So to Jordan, Amman, all the folk I met across the way thank you for lifting that weight. Shatta - Spicy Sauce For years the word Shatta has been touted around at Sqew. It wasn’t until a recent trip to Amman, Jordan that I truly understood the significance of this sauce. Shatta translates to spicy in Arabic. But it’s more than that. Since that trip, I can’t not see its place alongside shawarma and falafel. It’s like not having toum with chicken, or tahini with lamb or falafel. It just doesn’t make sense without it. Safe to say, that’s not a problem anymore. From Monday, you can have Shatta in your sandwich or on your platter. Authentic. Always. taken in Sqew by @sqew.uk

“THIS IS THE BEST SQEW YET” 🙌 After Mitch’s short stint in Jordan, he came back to @sqew.uk so inspired that he has changed up the whole menu, because why the hell not? Adding to the line-up we already know and love is Saj bread; Shatta has made it firmly on the sauce menu, and the meats have changed too, they’re even more flavourful than before. 🤤 SQEW has also cut down the size of the bread, so you can now get yourself a shawarma for just £7.90. Cheese has also been added into the mix, all thanks to Mitch’s holiday and also @zitarogers for the nudge. You can now also order a Lebanese rice box and in the words of Mitch himself, “How great is that?”.
