ART! Look at it, make it, support artists in your community, go to museums, buy art - it makes everyone’s lives better. I made this encaustic mixed media piece with letterpress print on paper, melted beeswax, pigment & colored pencil drawing… this one has SOLD but many more in the works in Studio Pioneer House. #makeart #buyart #lookatart #artistsofinstagram #enrichyourworld #encausticart #meltedbeeswax #woodcut by @squirrelsgonewild

Just around the corner from Covenant Health Park in downtown Knoxville is a space where rootsy Americana meets Southern grit & vintage style: Pioneer House of Letterpress & Vintage.

Julie Belcher — Appalachian artist, letterpress printmaker, and creative force — brings Knoxville’s culture to life with hand-pulled prints, encaustic art, and iconic posters that celebrate the South (“Whoa Mule,” “Sweet Tea,” and more).

Cowboy Phil (Phil Rupp) — with his signature long hair, warm smile, and unmatched knowledge of Western wear — curates a collection of vintage cowboy boots, hats, snap shirts, and even pieces once owned by legends like Ernest Tubb. Musicians and artists across the country seek him out to add one-of-a-kind treasures to their wardrobes.

Together, Julie and Phil have built a creative hub that’s part print shop, part art studio, and part vintage Western emporium—keeping Knoxville’s unique style alive.

The best finds? Always in person. Visit @PioneerHouse inside @ShopMarcNelson, or explore Julie’s art and goods at pioneer-house.com.
