🌟 Meet Ash who joined us at SRISA from the Cleveland Institute of Art for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters.

During their time in Florence, they immersed themselves in painting, printmaking, book arts, and more, while traveling across Europe and Africa. Every new experience helped them see their goals differently and imagine an international career in the arts.

The support Ash found in the studios and print shop pushed them to be more unapologetic and bold with their work, while exhibiting their art in Italy gave them the confidence to pursue a career in the art world.

Since returning to Cleveland, Ash has participated in five group exhibitions and recently opened their first solo show, 1 in 10, exploring polycystic ovarian syndrome and the medical gaze.

Imagine studying Renaissance art and exploring masterpieces in some of Florence’s most historic palaces 🙂‍↔️

Students in our Renaissance Drawing & Painting Techniques class recently visited the Biennale Internazionale d’Antiquariato di Firenze at Palazzo Corsini, where restorer Letizia Montalbano shared her ongoing research on Michelangelo’s first project for the façade of the Basilica of San Lorenzo.

The day continued at @palazzomediciriccardi, where students explored Renaissance graphic works by artists like Albrecht Dürer and Parmigiano.

And yes, this counts as class 😌

Have you ever noticed how much yellow there is in Florence? 💛

There’s a reason. Many of the buildings are made with pietra forte, a warm sandstone that’s been used in Florentine architecture for centuries. It’s what gives so many streets their golden, earthy glow ✨
