I first met Grace Lin ten years ago through her MG book, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, and enjoyed accompanying Minli on her quest. If you're like me and enjoy folklore and adventure, this book is a must-read! I loved it so much that I still have it on my bookshelf. And last week, I was lucky enough to meet Grace IRL and get it signed by her (swipe to see her holding the book in the last pic!). 🥳🎊

Grace's latest picture book, The Little Stone Buddha, is gorgeously illustrated and full of heart - a story of kindness, community, and finding treasures in unexpected places.

I mustn't forget to add that Grace's Tedx Talk on "windows and mirrors" (that I first heard also a decade ago) continues to be relevant and inspiring today. Do give it a listen! 💜💚♥️

Thanks to @rachelrcreates for making me aware of Grace's reading event and to @skokielibrary for hosting.😇🙏🏾

This is a long overdue post. I meant to share this a few months ago when Kahani Tree turned 20!

@kahanitree is an exclusive children's bookstore in Mumbai. And the person who runs it, Sangeeta Bhansali, is an amazing literary curator, community-focused bibliophile and reading advocate who has been promoting diverse Indian children's literature for twenty years now.

I first met Sangeeta Bhansali 11 years ago (pic 1) before I was published, feeling lost and frustrated. I vaguely remember her talking about the children's publishing scene and many other bookish things. But most of all, I remember how she made me feel - at ease and hopeful as an aspiring children's author.

Since I became a published author (pic 3 from 2016), I have really appreciated her invaluable work in championing books by local authors and illustrators, helping schools and non-profits by setting up curated libraries, and finally of course, nurturing young readers who have now grown up to be book lovers.

Through the bookstore, she also hosts storytelling sessions, creative workshops, and author events.

So if you're ever in Mumbai, do visit. This cozy children's bookstore will keep you joyfully busy for several hours.
KT, Congratulations on the completion of 20 years as a literary oasis. May you continue to bring the joy of reading and stories to children and the child-like (those like me!😜😇).
