just a week ago I was sitting on the couch with the realization that friday nights don’t belong to us anymore.

yesterday, I woke up in Laramie to watch my baby play his first college football game. like what? 🥹

motherhood is funny like that.

just when you’re grieving the end of one version of your life, you realize you aren’t actually at the end.

the view just changed.

I don’t get the practices anymore.
I don’t get him walking through my door every night.
I don’t get to know every little part of his day.

and I’m still learning how to be okay with that.

but I still get to be his mom.

I still get to wear his number.
I still get nervous before kickoff.
I still get to yell entirely too loud from the stands. 😂
I still get to make the drive.

and I will. We will.

however many miles separate us in this season, if our baby is playing football, his mom and dad are finding their way into those stands. 🤎🏈

thank you mom and nale'a for joining us for this incredible milestone. this moment doesn't just belong to our son, but to everyone that has played a part in getting him here. we share this moment with everyone that has ever been a part of our village. and i know papa is so fucking proud. he's lookin down on us sayin "told you guys"🪽

We blinked, and somehow the boy that made us parents became a young man writing his own story.

There are so many people helped love, guide, challenge, encourage, coach, protect, and believe in him over the years. Thank you to every coach, teacher, mentor, friend, teammate, aunty/uncle/grandma that has ever given him a ride, a place to lay his head, advice, an opportunity to succeed or even support over the years.

We’ll never stop being grateful for the village behind the young man he’s becoming. This chapter may be ending, but the village that helped raise him will always have a place in the next one.

To everyone he's Vanilla,
But to us — he's our Jayden.
Ho'omaika'i bubs, we are so proud of you and love you with every fiber of our being 🎓✨

if you’ve ever wondered what the heck I’m drinking every morning…

two of my daily favorites: cleantox tea + fizz. 🌱☕️

and because apparently my morning drink needed its own little holiday celebration, we’re unboxing the 12 days of fizz 🎁 right before Halloween 🤪 because I think they'll sell out by then 😬

there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you, baby, and seeing that smile made every bit of the crazy leading up to this day worth it.

I couldn’t have gotten it all done without my village, and there’s something to be said about the people who show up for your kids in ways you never even have to ask. I’ll never stop being grateful for the people who love mine like their own 💛

I always pray that you never shy away from shining your light in every space you take up. you were meant to shine, baby. don’t ever make yourself smaller for anyone, and never let anyone convince you to dim what God put inside of you.

no words could ever express how proud I am of you.
no words could ever explain how beautiful you are.

and somewhere between watching you get ready and seeing you all dressed up, all I could see was you on your wedding day.

being your mom is such a privilege,
and I will never take it lightly.

moms of teens, enjoy them now.
take the pictures.
deal with the attitudes. 🤪
sit in their rooms a little longer.
say yes when you can.
soak up the ordinary stuff, too.

because one day you’ll look at them and realize they aren’t so little anymore.

and you’ll wonder how you got here so damn fast.

and we really were living the best days all along. 🖤

at any given moment,
one needs advice.
one needs a ride.
one needs help with homework.
one can’t find something that’s directly in front of him.

and somehow they all yell “MOM” with the exact same urgency 😂

I don’t think I realized for a long time how much I need this.

not necessarily lei making specifically.

just… making things.

random projects I convinced myself I could figure out 😂

there’s something about getting out of my head and letting my hands do the work that makes everything feel a little quieter.

and considering approximately 47 tabs are open in my brain at all times…

I’ll take it 😂🌺

if it’s not one thing, it’s another 😂🥴 and honestly I have to laugh or I'll cry 🥲

fixed a screw in one tire… only to pick up a nail in a completely different tire on the way back to work.

so there I was, stranded, waiting for my husband to come rescue me because obviously that’s what husbands are for 🤪

and apparently I thought, “well… might as well open this box.” 😂

but honestly, this is kinda what I want sharing my life on here to look like.

not waiting until the house is clean, the schedule calms down, the kids don’t need me, work isn’t crazy, or I have the perfect thing to say.

because real life is going to keep real life-ing.

and somewhere in the middle of flat tires, football practices, work days, school pickups and everything else… I’m still building something that I hope gives me more freedom to actually enjoy all of it.

maybe that’s the opportunity I’ve been overlooking.

I don’t have to create a whole different life to build my dream one.

I can build it right in the middle of the one I’m already living. 🤎

for some time I thought wanting “more” meant I wasn’t grateful for what I already had. or I had to sacrifice what I had. or I had to prioritize things over what I wanted.

but I don’t think that’s it anymore.

I don’t need some wildly different life.

I want slow mornings when I can have them.
work that means something to me.
time to play with flowers and make things with my hands.
football fields and school pickups.
random trips with my husband.
a house full of people I love.
and enough freedom to actually be present for all of it.

I still have big dreams. probably too many of them 😂

but I think most of what I’m building toward comes down to something really simple:

I don’t want to escape my ordinary life.
I want more freedom to live it on my terms 💛
