Next Friday, I’m playing a solo set in Copenhagen. I’ll also be performing in different improvised constellations. We’re thrilled to present the third track from the compilation Anima Respinta dal Futuro Vol.3: “The Fog of Milan” by Vanity Productions. A composition of tape manipulation and drone acquisition, “The Fog of Milan” offers a fractured reflection of the city — a mirror where its familiar contours become blurred, distant, and strangely unfamiliar. Layers of tape, noise, and sustained tones slowly build an introspective soundscape, suspended somewhere between urban presence and disappearance. The piece features contributions from Shredded Nerve, Jackson-Pratt, and Ashley C. Christian @stadsgaard, also known as his solo moniker Vanity Productions, has become a crucial figure in the in contemporary Nordic electronic and experimental music. Emerging from the early 2000s noise scene, Stadsgaard developed a distinctive language that brings together abrasive textures, introverted melodies, and minimalist structures, shaping melancholic and existential soundscapes. As co-founder, alongside Loke Rahbek, of the influential underground label @poshisolationworld, Stadsgaard has played an important role in the evolution of the Nordic experimental scene. His work spans projects such as Damien Dubrovnik and The Empire Line, as well as collaborations including the notable 2019 album Coastal Erosion with Merzbow. OUT TODAY! Merzbow & Vanity Productions “The New Peasantry” Masami Akita’s relentless output as Merzbow has made him a broad touchstone for experimental musicians and artists treating sound as material with a capital ‘M’. Though the persistence of the harsh noise frame that surrounds him is unquestionably deserved, there’s a percussive through line from his earliest recordings that frames him just as well. Vanity Productions and his existentialist touch and blurry sensibility have become a crucial part of the contemporary Nordic electronic and experimental music scenes in the past decade. Stadsgaard paints sonic canvases of modern day melancholia oscillating between electronic experimentation, noise exploration and elevated melodic elaboration, directing tender forces with an assertive and impulsive streak. “The New Peasantry” - the unification of the two projects, goes some way towards foregrounding this. The album is built around piano manipulation, both physical, in the sense of a prepared piano, and digital, through digital signal processing. The piano runs a gauntlet from Conlon Nancarrow to the Clicks and Cuts series. The cumulative effect however, points toward a dystopian avant-garde sensibility, not noise per se. The title leads us here by way of social commentary, evoking the harrowing techno-feudal reality that our IT department overlords have conjured. The gulf between the piano’s almost machinic interventions and the remote emotional horizon of the accompaniment mirrors the divide the title suggests, placing The New Peasantry in the orbit of noise’s longstanding fascination with atrocity while insisting that its horrors belong not to history but the present Digital and art edition by @stadsgaard

The art boxes for Merzbow & Vanity Productions and Shredded Nerve are being crafted by hand at Cult Pump Studio in Copenhagen, Denmark. Each box features silkscreened covers paired with an individual analog photograph — no two alike. Limited, numbered editions. The boxes will be released Friday, September 4th by @stadsgaard
