Just going to start posting training clips because I want to keep posting but too lazy to dedicate time to creating engaging content on top of all my other obligations in life right now…

Posts will consist of my training, which isn’t fancy, mostly just quality S&C.

I may add some description or context to the caption or just thought dump sometimes but I don’t really care about growing my account, id rather just have this as a place to drop ideas and be as authentic as possible!

Anyway today’s session consisted of some accelerations, flys, bounds, and broad jumps to box jumps. Just quality high force and high velocity ground contacts, accumulate enough of these and you just might get athletic! by @stammerfit

Do you really need med ball throws and trap bar jumps for power?

I’m not against moving lighter loads at higher speeds, but if someone isn’t strong, they’re going to have a limited ceiling of force production, which caps out power. So it’d be more worth your time to develop the max force production capabilities, then layer the velocity component on top of that in the forms of jumps and sprints.

The real adaptation we should be chasing is rate of force development, which is how fast we can reach peak force. This can be trained by lifting heavy weights with fast intent, as well as moving light weights fast.

I’m not against MB throws or weighted jumps, I use them all the time. They’re good to have in the program for variety and general physical development, but for power, there’s better things.

Do you agree with this??

There are no “best exercises for athletes”, it all comes down to the individual and their goals. But I generally prefer some movements over others.

It’s not rocket science to increase your vertical, but it is hard work…

I see a lot of “how to jump higher” videos on IG with workouts of SL squats and pogo hops

Most of the time these guys were genetically gifted with the ability to jump high and did it in spite of these workouts

You must create significant muscular and tendon adaptations that support power production and the stresses of jumping

That’s where these exercises come into play.

Follow to learn more about how I did it

Some “strength” exercises can be used to recapture movement options.

Of course if your goal is max force production or hypertrophy, I probably wouldn’t select this exercise for you. But if it’s to maintain shoulder health while doing resistance training, it might be right for you.

There are always trade offs in training and recognizing what adaptations an exercise is creating and how it may affect movement is crucial.

Unilateral, alternating, or reciprocating movements are one way to minimize the compressive effects associated with heavy strength training.

Give this one a shot with you or your clients and let me know how it works!

As promised, here are my current vertical jump numbers.

Standing vertical: 28”
Approach vertical: 33”

This summer I trained quite a bit for jumping but I haven’t trained it specifically in over a month… I think the rebound/deload effect might have worked a little bit because I’m not mad at these numbers at all

Also I forgot to press record when doing my initial jumps so this was after like 8 max jump attempts 🤦🏼‍♂️

Might try to get these numbers up this winter, or just get jacked… idk yet 😆 comment what you think I should do and I’ll document it

We are so back. Vertical numbers are dropping later this week.

Comment what would make this session more optimal

When someone hears compensation their mind automatically resorts to a bad thing, although this is not always the case. The body cannot function without compensation, when an area of is not operating as it should, it will find a way to complete the task. Though, this doesn’t mean that there aren’t more effective ways complete the task. When someone is experiencing pain or discomfort, then it may be worth trying to address.

Rim height: 9’7 (measured)

Theoretically, would need to add 5 inches to my approach vert to have these in my bag on 10 foot.

Challenge accepted 🤝
