There are pieces I understand while I’m making them.

And then there are paintings that explain themselves to me later.

The Woman Waiting Within came from that strange place between who you were and whoever you’re becoming. The figure feels almost doubled, one version solid and another hovering in front of her, as if some part of herself is still catching up.

That has felt very familiar to me.

My work over the last year has quietly recorded changes I didn’t always have words for. Grief, survival, rebuilding, and eventually the realization that moving forward doesn’t mean leaving everything behind.

Sometimes rebirth is much quieter than that.

Sometimes it’s simply recognizing yourself again.

The Woman Waiting Within will be part of Starline Factory’s Emergence Series: REBIRTH this Saturday in Harvard, Illinois.

If you’re nearby, come see her in person. The surface has so much more life and texture than a screen can hold. And if you’re new here, follow along for layered oil + cold wax paintings about memory, resilience, weather, and the complicated women moving through all of it. taken in Starline Factory by @starlineartevent

True rebirth rarely comes from adding layers; it comes from stripping everything down to what is real. Casey Marlin’s ink-on-paper work explores transformation by shedding the unnecessary—reducing form, emotion, and shadow to their most vital elements. In every piece, the stark interplay between dark and light becomes a visual metaphor for emerging from the dark into clarity. 🖤

For Casey, the paper acts as a blank slate, and ink demands absolute commitment. Unforgiving and permanent, every stroke is an irreversible step forward—a refusal to dwell on what was, and an embrace of what is coming into being.

“Creating art is truly the sixth sense… as an artist I can magnify reality or imagination through myself, and that gift can be presented as a gift to others.” — Billy Bishop

As we prepare for Emergence Part 3 — REBIRTH, we are honored to feature the powerful, transformative work of longtime Starline Factory contributing artist Billy Bishop.
🎓A graduate of Milton College with a degree in Illustration and Design, Bill’s art is represented in homes and businesses across the country. While his portfolio deeply honors sports, nature, and wildlife, his raw figurative and wildlife charcoal pieces carry a visceral weight that directly mirrors this season’s theme.

Come experience the depth and emotional magnification of Billy Bishop’s work in person!

BEHIND THE CANVAS: Artist Spotlight🪡🧵

Discover the inspiring work of Barbara Schneider, a featured artist in our upcoming show, Emergence Part 3 – Rebirth. Schneider’s art delves into the profound cycles of nature—destruction, renewal, and growth.
Drawing inspiration from prairie burns and fallen trees, she employs a captivating mix of photography, stitching, painting, and burning to reflect the constant state of transformation.
Her work beautifully intertwines the concept of rebirth with themes of grief and change, demonstrating how loss can serve as a catalyst for new growth.

🗓️ Mark your calendar and join us to experience Barbara Schneider’s evocative work firsthand at Emergence 3 — Rebirth!
