Yesterday we took a group of student volunteers to @tedxnorthernquarter to help out front of house, giving them valuable work experience at one of the world’s leading conference platforms.
We loved being part of the @tedxnorthernquarter family

Yesterday we brought together students from 5 Manchester state schools for the first Made in Manchester event, a morning of honest conversation with successful Mancunians about confidence, resilience, opportunity and the many different paths that life can take after school.

Massive thanks to Damian Hughes @liquidthinker for hosting and for being a fantastic ambassador for the project. Thanks also to @mrtimheatley and everyone at @capitalcentric for hosting us in such an amazing place.

Be curious: huge thanks to Grace Rothery, Chief of Staff at ENSEK, for delivering a brilliantly inspirational and insightful talk to our Year 7 students this morning on her career pathway from school, with lots of advice on strategies for optimising opportunities and building transferable skills and resilience throughout the journey. Fantastic to see Year 7 so engaged and asking lots of questions at the end, a great experience for them as they finish their important week of end-of-year exams. Huge thanks also @statetalking for organising this invaluable opportunity for our students#year7#careers#aspire#achieve#curiosity by @statetalking

We’re proud to announce joining TEDxNorthernQuarter 2026 as an official event partner, @statetalking Manchester 🎤 🔴

As part of our partnership, StateTalking will be working with TEDxNorthernQuarter to supply student volunteers for this year’s event, giving young people valuable hands on experience at one of the world’s leading conference platforms and access to great and insightful TEDx talks by leading industry professionals. From behind the scenes operations to front of house support, students will gain real world insight, confidence and practical skills! 💡

StateTalking connects state primary, secondary and sixth form colleges across Oldham, Tameside, Rochdale, Wigan, Salford, Bury, Manchester, Trafford, Bolton and Stockport with inspirational and relatable local role models and speakers 💪

Since 2022, StateTalking has been working to level the playing field, one talk at a time.

Former independent school students make up less than 7 percent of the UK population, yet they continue to dominate industries spanning politics, media, the arts, professional sport, medicine, business and law. StateTalking is on a mission to change that narrative.

Their mantra is simple. You cannot be what you cannot see ❤️

By introducing Greater Manchester state school students to high achievers who look and sound like them, StateTalking is helping young people think bigger, expand their horizons and see new possibilities for their future.
