In case it isn’t obvious, my account is dedicated to all things real and tangible. Things that exist in the physical world and have been created with human hands - usually mine.

I’ve been overly-ruminating on a few disturbing AI-related online interactions from the last several weeks: someone generating an AI image of a “historical” gown, then asking real people where they can buy the trim. Newsflash: real people can’t source fake things.

Someone “creating” an entire website and blog posts with AI to falsely pass themselves off as a knowledgeable, long time historical fashion maker. The items in their store are a mishmash of AI edited and AI generated images.

Digital pattern sellers on Etsy using AI images to “show” what the finished garment looks like.

I understand why AI images could feel helpful in some situations, but please don’t fall for the trap. Intellectual theft and natural resource waste aside, it hurts you, too!

You may have a wonderful gown idea or an excellent pattern for sale, but using AI images wastes time, costs you real help, and undermines trust.

I will only show real things. And I will only help and support real things, too.

She had her first foray into 18th century life this weekend at @fortligonier with @pennyrivercostumes and @sewtartthe2nd. She met sheep, tricorns, muskets, and so many people; and my apron will never be the same.

Here's the reveal of Queen Ashley (as she's now known in our house) at 12th Night.
