Here's my *completely unbiased* list of reasons you should follow my gardening account. Obviously, I'm the best person to ask 😎

Expect gardening tips, plant recommendations, questionable decisions and an entirely unreasonable amount of encouragement to BUY. MORE. PLANTS.

I believe in growing a garden that's good for both wildlife and your actual soul. Not so good on your bank balance though.

You don't need a perfect garden and you also don't need to know what you're doing. And you certainly don't need another Dahlia (You definitely do need another Dahlia).

So if you're into gardening, growing flowers and veg and taking your hobby more seriously than you take yourself, you'll fit right in.

Happy Gardening pals! 🌱

Don't you just love it when your obsession actually starts solving all your problems?

These are some of the plants I always make sure I've got in the garden - they've earned their space and they're here to stay 🙌🏻

Some of these add scent, structure, height, softness and chaos control. Other just look pretty. We all need to play to our strengths though right?!

Also, turns out I quite like pinks and purples... 💜

What are your favourite plant problem solvers?!

Spotted an opportunity to get in the garden, didn't think fast enough to remember my headphones. 🎧

Time alone is good. Time alone with just my thoughts...terrifying.

They say gardening is good for the soul. Turns out it's also full of valuable life lessons 🌱

Like knowing when to let go, knowing it's ok to be a bit rusty and also knowing nobody knows what they're doing.

I'm not saying I'm qualified to give life advice, obviously. I spent 20 minutes cutting the heads off flowers with a pair of secateurs that probably need reporting to environmental health.

But if there's one thing gardening has taught me, it's that there's always room for a little growth.

And some questionably tangible life lessons.

You're welcome. 🌱

Dare I say I miss Summer? Well, not Summer, because that was insane. But Spring, maybe...

Turns out I wasn't being a grumpy old man. I was suffering from an entirely *not made up* condition known as...

**Rain-Associated Gardening Exasperation (RAGE).** 🌧️

Trust me, I could've been a doctor if I'd been arsed. Luckily for anyone in need of medical attention, I'm only in charge of keeping my plants alive. 😂

I'm pleased to announce I'm back in the garden and much nicer to be around now that the rain and hail-force winds appear to have stopped.

Until the next downpour, obviously. 🌱

Storm Boelo? More like Storm Boel-oh no.... 🌪️

I lost a few good Dahlias in the chaos - sleep well Vassio Meggos, Alain Mimoun & Wine Eyed Jill. You'll be missed 🩷

And yes, I'm choosing to smile through the pain cause my garden looks like it's been ransacked and that storm was a downright prick. Ah well, best go pick up my plant pots...

Just when you thought it might be time to pack away the trowel and gardening gloves until Spring, you remember one of the best times of the year - Spring bulb planting! 🌷

My lovely pals at @hayloftplants have gifted me a delightful box full of some absolutely amazing bulbs in incredible shades of pinks and purples 🙌🏻 While I'm not quite ready to get planting yet, I thought I'd share some little tips in case it's Operation Spring Bulb in your garden.

I've got an amazing mix of Tulips, Crocus, Alliums and Hyacinth to plant up - my favourites from the list definitely being the Tulip Power Parrot, Tulip Double Negrita and the Hyacinth Pink Surprise 🪻

I'll be potting up my Spring pots in a couple of weeks so promise to pop up a few posts around then too - I'll even share some more tips on how I try and squirrel proof my pots... 🚫🐿️

Growing garlic this year? Well, luckily for you, I've got the clove-down... 🧄

Definitely one of my favourite things to grow in the garden as it doesn't take much work, something I'll definitely use in the kitchen and (if you get the right variety) can keep for AGES.

I tend to start mine off in modules to help the roots develop before planting out. Also gives me chance to clear out the space in the raised bed (and a few containers) without feeling like I need to move stuff before I'm ready.

Garden centres usually have a good stock of different types and there are plenty of great places online to get your bulbs. I'm going with Garcua this year - not one I've grown before but it's a softneck variety that promises big bulbs and stores well 🧄

I'll keep these in the greenhouse while the roots grow a little more, just making sure to keep them lightly watered (but not waterlogged) before planting out in December to grow over winter 🌱

Stay tuned for part 2 (if I remember) to see just how much the roots grow!

Nobody tells me what to do in the garden 🌱

Unless it's about making it look nice, then my wife is definitely in charge. Or unless it's about where I can put my plant pots, then my 2 year old is in charge. Or unless it's about whether I'm allowed to garden or film a dance routine, then my 6 year old is in charge.

But those 10 minutes while the kids are distracted, my wife is in the shower and I've picked up all the dog 💩?! I am my own man, the garden is my oyster! And I will most definitely spend all of those 10 minutes procrastinating and not actually doing anything. But at least I was in charge for a bit. Sort of.

Reasons to love gardening in Autumn 🍂🌱

After a long, HOT summer I am all in for some Autumn garden vibes. The Dahlias are still blooming, the garden is still full of subtle colours and I'm excited to plan my Spring bulb planting for next year 🌷

I'll also be getting my garlic in the ground (a little later) and potentially tackling a couple of projects I just couldn't bring myself to do in Summer.

And if you're anything like me, you'll be holding out on wearing shorts for as long as possible - pottering round the garden, staring into the abyss and apologising to the many plants you failed over the last few months...

You know, the important stuff.

So here's to another few months of questionable gardening decisions, plant purchases and, hopefully, the occasional sunny Autumn day ☀️

What's top of your Autumn garden jobs list? And, more importantly, are you still wearing shorts?

There's no such thing as a *perfect* garden, but if there was... 🌱

I'll be honest, the thought of paying to plant bindweed anywhere near my garden sends shivers down my spine. Maybe I could befriend Ian though...

And if you don't know what Bernard's Watch is then I'm not sure we can be friends ⌚

I've been doing some important work for the gardening community in my garden down time. 🌱

Namely, inventing words for things we all experience but just can't quite find the right way of expressing. You're welcome.

From Plantisocial to Frondship, these terms will give gardeners the voice they've been crying out for. The fact I've made them up is, quite simply, beside the point.

I'm accepting new submissions for the SGG Garden Dictionary - feel free to leaf them in the comments...
