My final moment in ‘Finding Neverland’,

I will miss hearing Max Richter’s gripping music playing, inspired by the final heartbreaking yet hopeful moments of the movie ‘Hamnet’ throughout the foundation.

The final room played the final scene of the movie ‘Finding Neverland’.
The last Picture is with Suzanne Landau, my former co-founder, who’s influence still guides me daily.

Thank you to the many of you who came, paused for a moment, and left with a smile.

Of course, deeply grateful to these wonderful artists who make our life’s better.

I am often asked what makes you like an artwork or an artist : well, It starts when I feel an emotion of any sorts. That is where it begins.

Visiting my friend Friedrich Kunath’s studio, added another layer to the multitude of emotions that I keep feeling while discovering paintings by this brilliant painter, who also happens to understand the complexities of life, expressing them with his usual wit while always flirting with deeper emotions such as melancholy and yes, even sadness.

I shed a tear while visiting your studio my friend, thanks for such a great day.

This post is dedicated to Glenn Scott Wright, who with Victoria Miro has represented Kusama since the early 90’s, and who has been instrumental in every stage of her incredible journey for more than 30 years.

Our friendship and your support for me personally, my foundation and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art is far from taken for granted.

Thanks to you, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art was able to host a major Kusama retrospective at the height of Covid, drawing 700 000 visitors in the most visited exhibit ever in Israel and the highest number per capita ever for a Kusama show.

In these turbulent times, with extreme, polarised and simplistic views prevailing, you, better than many, understands that the people are not the government, that those who lead us embarrass us and are a source of shame.

Thanks to your incessant efforts, we were also able, together with Matthew and Melanie Bronfman and with Roland and Anne Lorie, to acquire and place a major infinity room at the museum only recently.

Pictures above of the opening in Tel Aviv, with Suzanne Landau (my co-founder then & curator of the show) and representatives of Kusama’s studio and gallery in Japan.

And Thank you Glenn and Fabian Lang, who used to be the Director at Victoria Miro, for keeping me close and involved with Kusama during all those years.

Glenn I often jokingly tell you that you are my mentor, you are!

Goodbye Yayoi Kusama,
I will miss you.
For the past 20 years, you have been an integral part of my life.

It has been a privilege to be a collector of yours for more than 2 decades, to have been involved in so many projects with you, like recently the Infinity Room at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and to have helped collectors and friends across the globe to add a work of yours to their collection, hence owning a piece of art history.

As one the most significant artist of the past century, your legacy will endure as your life story and impact on contemporary art is now part of history.

From being for decades a subject of controversy, shame and rejection in your hone country in Japan, it fills me with joy, and a sweet taste of vindication, that on the day of your passing away, you arw at the headlines of almost any news outlet across the globe, and a social media sensation.

I will always admire you for who you were, loyal to your path and passion and consistent with the message you had to carry for the world, for which you sacrificed a lot during your life.

Here a few of the many hundreds of pictures in my library that are significant to me, including my first acquisition (the blue painting), my welcome speech with Suzanne Landau at the museum for the opening of your historical exhibition (700 000 visitors), and a few works I either own or that were significant.

Whar a tremendous loss for us all.

‎⁨ ⁨ ⁨ ⁨ לא פשות הפוסט הזה, העליתי אותו והורדתי אותו, אבל זהו זה

לפני כמה חודשים רכשתי ציור גדול ומשמעותי של פרידריך קונת, ומתוכו התחיל להתגבש בי הרעיון לתערוכה חדשה.

יותר מבכל תערוכה שיצרתי בחמש השנים האחרונות, לקח לי שבועות למצוא את השם הנכון. הייתה בי תחושה שאני חייב לדייק. קול פנימי, שקט אך חזק, אמר לי שזו לא עוד תערוכה.

ואז, פתאום, עלה בי השם “Finding Neverland” , למצוא את ארץ לעולם לא, מקום שאני ממשיך לשאוב אליו, מקום בלי דאגות ואפו אני יחול להמשיך להיות צעיר לנצח.

בהתחלה רציתי פשוט לחבר יחד עבודות של אמנים שאני אוהב, עם דגש על נוף ויופי, כדי ליצור רגע של מנוחה, של התבוננות, בתוך כל הרעש והכובד שאנחנו חיים איתם בשנים האחרונות בארץ.

כשהתערוכה כבר הייתה תלויה, הרגשתי שהעבודות יפות, ושהכול יושב בדיוק במקום. ובכל זאת, היה חסר משהו. היה חסר לה צליל, מנגינה, שתעניק לה את המשמעות שחיפשתי, בלי שידעתי לאן המסע הזה יוביל אותי.

ואז, משום מקום, השמעתי את המוזיקה המרגשת של מקס ריכטר מהסצנה האחרונה בסרט Hamnet, שבה בנו של שייקספיר, שמת בילדותו, מופיע שוב בדמיונם של הוריו. מצאתי את עצמי מוצף בדמעות, של עצב, אבל גם של תקווה.

המוזיקה הזו מלווה היום את התערוכה.

ורק אז הבנתי.

התערוכה הזאת מוקדשת לך, מתן, שסילבי, ואני איבדנו אותך בצונאמי לפני עשרים ואחת שנה⁩⁩⁩

Brancusi at the National Gallery in Berlin.

Sheer beauty, goosebumps.

Some exhibitions will stay with me forever, this is one of them. The most comprehensive exhibition by this legendary artist in decades

Brancusi started as a pupil of Rodin, but quickly evolved into one of the greatest artists of his times (even if not recognised back then by his peers ) to this day.
Brancusi work searches in such a subtle, elegant and aesthetic way life’s origin and blends antiquity with modernity, figuration and abstraction.

Today I am ending a major chapter of my life, my union with Suzanne Landau, the art world legend, both in Israel and abroad, who revolutionised the art’s in Israel and who’s eye and curatorial skills are undisputed.

I wish to thank you my dear Suzanne for the extraordinary journey we started more than a decade ago.

Together, as can be seen in the pictures, we collaborated on the historic Kusama show in Tel Aviv, we travelled to Art Basel and the Venice Biennale, jointly setting up great exhibitions at the foundation but mostly succeeded to add a much needed platform to the Tel Aviv Art scene.

I am proud the Foundation is today perceived as a fundamental player in our local eco-system, while connected and respected way beyond our borders.

I will continue to search to impact my city and beyond with great and bold cultural initiatives.

And now, Welcome

⁨ ⁨ ⁨ ⁨ ⁨ ⁨ ⁨ אני כותב לראשונה בעברית, אני לא רוצה שעוקביי מחו״ל ייחשפו לפוסט הזה.

אני ומשפחתי עברנו לישראל 18 שנים לאחר אובדן טראגי, שבמהלכן חווינו את היופי של המדינה הזאת ושל אנשיה

לאחרונה, חברי הממשלה שלי שותים שמפניה בחיוך, באקסטזה, משום שלבסוף אנו הולכים “לתלות” את אויבינו , בביטוי פרימיטיבי של אופוריה לנוכח הרעיון של הרג, ובחקיקה שמיושמת רק על ערבים.

מתנחלים (אזרחי מדינתי) מבצעים מעשי טרור מדי יום, לעיתים נגד נשים, ילדים וקשישים, וכל זאת בעידוד מחויך מצד מנהיגינו.

מיליארדים מכספנו, כספי האנשים העובדים, מוזרמים באישון לילה לחרדים שאינם עובדים ואינם מתגייסים, גם זאת בחיוך ואבירה של ניצחון. עבדתי עם החרדים בקריירה הקודמת שלי במשך 20 שנה, בבלגיה, בניו יורק וכאן בישראל. אני מכיר אותם היטב, אנשים ברובהם מדהימים, ואני יודע שאפשר גם אחרת

גורמים לנו להאמין שאנו יכולים לפעול כמעצמה ולנהוג באגרסיביות כלפי מדינות שבעבר היו ידידות שלנו, תוך בידוד ישראל. זוהי מדיניות מודעת ואכזרית מצד מנהיגינו, שמטרתה לגרום לנו להרגיש נרדפים, ובכך לחזק את האידיאולוגיה הלאומנית שלהם.

האידיאולוגיה הקיצונית של הזרמים הפנאטיים ביותר בחברה שלנו הולכת והופכת למיינסטרים, אידיאולוגיה המבוססת על עליונות יהודית. דור חדש של ילדים ובני נוער גדל מבלי להכיר מציאות אחרת, ומפגין סימנים של בורות עמוקה כלפי ערכים מערביים. הם מעולם לא הכירו את ישראל שהייתה חלק מהציוויליזציה המערבית.

אני אוהב את העם שלי, את הבית שלי, זהו העם הטוב ביותר בעולם. אנחנו צריכים להיאבק חזרה, בחוכמה.⁩

אפשר אחרת. ביטחון וערכים, ביחד.

A visit to Hilary Pecis’s studio in Los Angeles, surrounded by the beauty of the works all around and the beauty of Hilary’s personality. I have known Hilary for many years now, as she also participated in the first ever show at Nassima Landau in November 2020, High Voltage, exactly 5 years ago!
So proud of your achievements since and the humble way you face your global success.
