It's been a minute since I've posted. Two years to be exact. Took a break while life had to be closely managed. A successful double lung transplant for Kenneth, a move to Arizona, selling of our beloved Seattle home and a move to our beach retreat for summers. Now loving this quiet time between Christmas and New Years to reflect on our life, be grateful for our blessings and enjoy each other and the beauty of the season. May the new year bring health and happiness to each and everyone of you. by @steffieharecreative

Planting my front porch has always been difficult. Little to no sun most of the day, then a blast of hot sun in the late afternoon. Found a few plants that seem to thrive, including begonias, Autumn Fern, and a new small leaf plant from Proven Winners featuring a green and white leaf. What do you plant in these challenging circumstances?

Yep! It's true. I still have my tree up and some of my Christmas decor (don't hate on me).
I justify it on several levels. This year @corksandcanvasevents we produced over 60 holiday events so I was late in decorating, my color scheme dosen't scream Christmas and still looks so pretty in January and I finally found time to actually make myself some of the projects we offered at our events. New favorites are the glassybaby wreath surround and the evergreen wreath featuring dried flowers and pods (they both still look great!), as do my mini arrangements made a month ago. And yes, there was fireand good tequila. Christmas dinner prepared by the husband was flaming Cornish hens with a Cognac chanterelle mushroom sauce, too pretty not to include in my holiday roundup! This will be the last weekend I get to enjoy all these pretty winter vignettes that make me happy.

Happy Winter Solstice! The darkest day of the year was bone-chilling cold, snowy and sunny. It's my favorite kind of winter day tucked snug inside with a chicken pot pie cooking in the oven. Feeling blessed. by @steffieharecreative

I love my hydrangeas in the summer. But I love them more in the fall. The deep dark aubergine, tourquoise and pale green flowers are just begging to be picked. I've harvested enough to make a wreath and can't wait to assemble one. We've been having fun using dried flowers in our upcoming wreaths @corkandcanvevents so I tucked a few leftovers in my mini centerpieces and like the idea of mixing dried and fresh. It's also the time to make use of my carnival glass. This lovely dish came from @gigisgarden in her last move. I wonder if she'll want it back now.

Yep, it happened. I have been unable to post photos on Instagram and I've tried everything to correct it. Getting Instagram to respond is like impossible, so thought I would try one last time using my laptop. Why didn't I think of that before??

I'm still in my pink phase with flowers and accessories around the house that is until I switch out everything to shades of green to celebrate March. Loving these sweet anemones in my petite floral arrangements and look at the color of these vintage glasses at sunset! They were still sitting on the table from a little dinner party the night before since I have to wash them by hand, when I looked up and saw the most lovely light coming through them.

Collecting vintage and antique glassware goes back a long way in our family. We used to visit my great aunt Martha in her beautiful row house in San Francisco and she'd set the most lovely table with depression glass in every shape and color and I have loved that look ever since. And what about these orchids? They're trained to grow down instead of up. Sometimes you just have to grow against the grain...

In case you're wondering, yes my Christmas tree is down and most of my decorations. But only because I get to decorate for Valentine's Day. This year's decor was inspired by two pretty little vintage Fenton milk glass vases with frilly pink collars. These little gems belonged to the husband's maternal grandmother Marvel. (What a wonderful name, right?) They will take center stage on one of my dining room tables that's long and narrow. Because of the width, I like making petite floral arrangements. I call them my minies. I'm also swooning over these charming paper hearts💕 which will hang on my gold tree alongside my glass globe ornaments (told you not everything was put away!). I inherited the tree from @olga.hare.1, although I think she might like it back. Last but not least is this amazing hand painted linen pillow from @annewrittenart, which she will be instructing at an upcoming @corksandcanvasevents in February. I, for one, can't wait to paint my own. by @steffieharecreative

Sunrise sunset sunrise sunset. Just a little visual breather and reminder to take in the natural beauty that surrounds us. The last few days have been spectacular in the Puget Sound, and if you haven't gone outside to witness a sunrise or sunset, well, you need to. That's all.
