A 6-image panorama into the crater of Mt Vesuvius.
5D MII w/ 50mm Minolta MC 1:1.4

After our first attempt last year, we made it up and were able to hike around the edge.

When you look at Mt. Vesuvius from a few angles it looks like it has two peaks, although one is actually a ridge. This ridge is the existing crater of the original volcano, called Mt. Somma.
When the eruption of 79AD occurred, it changed the mountain’s shape and formed a new peak called Mt Vesuvius. The last eruption was March 1944 during the US and British occupation of Naples. There is footage of it online taken by American war photographers.

As I’ve said since we started traveling around Italy, no matter where you go, there’s a bar waiting with ice cold drinks. This was a classic example and there was a bar located on the edge of the crater- I did have a well deserved Birra Moretti.

“Roma on 35”

Going to see some friends over in Weehawken, NJ a couple of years ago, I wanted to bring something to drink so we stopped in a corner store. Inside, it looked like things hadn’t changed in a very long time. The products looked old, there were stacks of delivered snacks and drinks all over, unboxed. I grabbed a six pack and went to the cashier to pay.
This store had a bodega-style plexiglass wall with small shelves for candy, charger cables and other small items. Including a stash of #Kodak film. I asked how much they were and I think she was as exited for the shelf to be clear as I was to get a bunch of old film. $4.00 a roll. I took all 20 rolls.

Last year I finally got to shoot a lot of it in Italy. It’s definitely expired, but it’s wonderful.
