Welcome to the world Chester and Chase Cichosz. 💚💙

It was a wild and unexpected adventure this past week - the birth journey was traumatic and long, a perfect storm that hit unexpectedly and there is a lot of healing and recovery ahead.

I couldn’t be more grateful to the BEST MVP care team at @uwmedicine for steering us through to a safe and healthy outcome. 🥇

I will never have the words to thank my dear friend @taliakostalreiter for dropping her entire world to be my support person. When I was at my most alone, she showed up and didn’t leave my side until Chester and Chase were born and I was stable. Guardian angels do exist!! 🥰

And of course to @trevorcichosz - I love you. Team Cichosz, party of 5! Epic journeys ahead. 🏆 by @steph_steeples

Curiosity. Courage. Carnage. 😅

I am proud of my first marathon. It wasn’t pretty - I learned a lot! - and I ran opposite of my intended race plan (solid 1/2 then holding on to survive!).

When everything in me wanted to stop, I leaned into the experience and remembered that I want Charlie to learn the power of perseverance, dedication, and endurance.

(Some juicy blood blisters and a loose big toenail didn’t help but that’s part of the learning curve 😱)

2:52.19. First marathon in the books. 💪🏽

Dear XC Freshman,

Maybe you’ve run before. Maybe you’re brand new. Maybe you’re doing this as conditioning for your spring sport. But while you’re here, a few tips to help you crush your first season:

🔹 Don’t get bogged down by all the fancy training elements the elites use- there’s time for bicarb and supershoes later. Stick to the basics as you gain experience in this sport.
🔹 Meanwhile, the hype around fueling is real. Drink your electrolytes, try out some gels in training, and most importantly, eat real food throughout your days!!
🔹 This is a team sport. Trust and transparency with your teammates will make you unstoppable as a unit.
🔹 Keep your blinders on. Don’t worry what that other high school is doing, don’t worry what your favorite college teams are doing. Focus on YOU.
🔹 Remember - this is fun!!! 🏆

If you’re new here - Hi! I’m Coach Steph. I was a walk-on-turned NCAA runner up for a Division I track team, races professionally for 10-years with New Balance and represented Team USA at two World Athletic Championships. I virtually coach busy working parents, first-time marathoners and BQ hopefuls as well as high school state champions in Northern Virginia. Dream big, work hard, never give up. ⚡️ by @steph_steeples

Let them see you.

Let them see you fly!

Let them see you fail.

Let them see you try.

Charlie hopped into his first “race” earlier this summer and the mother-runner/coach in me was so proud: he ran the entire way (1000m!) without stopping.

We did have to work through that mental angst that happens after the adrenaline wears off - that existential moment when you have to decide to push through or stop.

Incredibly grateful for the support of @forallmothersorg and their Childcare Grant for making moments like this - and many more solo training days! - happen for me. I’m committed to pursuing my dreams so that my boys can feel empowered to chase their own ✨ by @steph_steeples

Note to self: the journey to the start line isn’t going to look the same, especially in very different seasons of life. This first year postpartum with the twins has been frustrating for the lack of consistency I’ve struggled to create. Will I ever toe a start line again - especially with the confidence of a solid training cycle under my belt?

Pulling a Ted Lasso and thinking like a goldfish for this Chicago Marathon build! Quietly creating habits in this new version of my fitness journey and trusting that with hard work, a ton of belief and a little bit of luck, the success will be there in the right place at the right time. ✨

On track or on trail
Laps, loops, hills and drills
Through rain, pain, success and gain
To fly and to fail
This running thing has changed my entire life.
Seasons come and go, and while it might look completely different, it remains
My constant companion
My bitter frenamie
My pride and my joy
My sense of self.

Cheers to #globalrunningday - to miles and miles ahead ⚡️ by @steph_steeples

May Notes:

🔹 The twins have new teeth, new skills (so close to standing unassisted!) and yet still not enough sleep for mama 😵‍💫

🔹 The first year of preschool is wrapping up for Big C, who has thrived ⚡️ Everyday I take a step back and look at this big, curious, charming kid and think “Where did you even come from?” 🥰

🔹 I turned 38 and have to say - your “late 30s” are pretty awesome. Feeling mostly happy with this postpartum body but still struggling to create a consistent training routine. Trail 50K on tap - vibes and lifetime fitness, don’t let me down! 💪🏽

🔹 After 100 days deployed, Papa Cichosz is back with the crew 🤘🏽 by @steph_steeples

Coach @steph_steeples recently spoke with @outside_run about ditching the GPS watch (or at least not being so tied to the data on your wrist!⌚️)

As Steph shares, obsessing over data can be a joy-stealer. As coaches, we’re here to dig into the data on your behalf, help you learn what metrics to focus on and what to ignore, and how to avoid anxiety spiraling every time you look at your watch.

A little rain never bothered us anyway!

What a JOY to gather with teammates, share some pre-race miles, shake out the nerves, and get hyped up for a great day of marathoning tomorrow. The weather is looking FAST from Hopkinton to Boston and our crew is ready ⚡️

Time to seize the moment! Good luck everyone! 🩵🩵🩵
