Move a Mile for the Million Pound Mission! 🙋🏼‍♂️🖤🤍

Earlier this week I was back with the @alanshearerfoundation for the launch of Move a Mile, to help raise £1 million for a second hydrotherapy pool at the @alanshearercentre in Newcastle.

There are over 10,000 members, but the current pool can only accommodate less than half that number of sessions a year. A second pool will make a massive difference to the level of support they can provide 🙏🏼

The idea is to collectively move 52 thousand miles, one for every seat inside St James’ Park, and getting involved is pretty simple.

🏃🏻‍♀️‍➡️ Move one mile however you can
💰 Donate £5
🖤 Nominate three more people to do the same

Not only has the man himself nominated you ALL, he also signed a Foundation hoodie for me which I’ll give away to one person who completes their mile over the next month.

TO ENTER:
Complete your mile and make your donation, share your finishers frame from the website and either tag me or send via DM if your account is private.

Enter by 30th September, winner drawn 1st October from all entries.

Do your mile, donate your fiver and pass it on!

Thank you to everyone who joins in for our own people, makes me proud to be a Geordie 🖤🤍

A little reintro 👋🏼 two years since the last one so here’s what you’ll find around here…

Newcastle and North East recommendations, coast life, mornings, match days, dog friendly places, food and things to do. Trips away, with work, people or solo, and plenty of ideas for making the most of where you are.

Everything I share comes from somewhere I’ve actually been, something I’ve done or how I’d genuinely spend my own time.

Plus the normal life stuff in between, thanks for being here xx

It’s the best time of year for a little Northumberland staycation 🍂

I’ve stayed in some lovely places across Northumberland over the years and these are six I’d happily go back to for a cosy autumn weekend with Arthur 🐾

A mix of hotels, cabins and Airbnbs, depending on what sort of weekend you’re after. Somewhere to come back to after a long walk, spend the afternoon in a country pub, or just make the most of being away for a couple of nights without having to travel very far.

Six of my favourite dog friendly Northumberland stays, all places I’ve stayed myself and would recommend 🐾

Got the Goods last week… 💛

Went on a little solo date to town last week and got myself a froyo from the new @goodsgoodsgoods_ 😋 Three toppings and a sauce it was delish. Also tried two of their matchas - the banana bread which is always a winner but i really enjoyed the maple sea salt one especially for this time of year so will be having that again.

I’ve been in twice now and if you’re not on time restrictions I’d go in the morning rather than lunch hour because wow it got busy. As well as froyo they have chicken caesar wraps and they’ve also now launched their vegan wrap this week too.

For treats I spotted donuts on the counter, and a few bits from @yanaactive on the gift stand in the middle. Seasonal flowers, veg farm boxes and a fully stocked drinks fridge on offer too.

I hope they do well as I really liked the vibe in there and it’s something a bit different. Find them on John Dobson Street 💛

Ernest is one of my favourite Ouseburn spots especially for brunch (the Local Hero 🍳) but I clearly haven’t been paying enough attention to its little brother round the back. If you haven’t yet either then meet @ernie.ouseburn 🤝🏻

I went for a coffee before my blow dry last week and had a proper look around while I was waiting for it. I knew you could get takeaway but didn’t realise how much else was in there.

There’s breakfast sarnies, sandwiches, salads and treats, then also a deli with organic fruit and veg and a shop full of flowers, candles, coffee, cards, gifts, pantry stuff, natural wines, craft beers and loads from local and independent traders.

Like a lot of Ouseburn it’s small makers, organic produce and plenty of stuff that’s been sourced with sustainability in mind. VERY Ouseburn coded and I loved it my haul if I’d had time would have been a coffee, a thank you card, tony’s chocolate, a candle and some tins of anchovies - diverse!

Pay a visit next time you’re in Ouseburn

October means it’s time for the annual Sunday lunch post: my favourite North East Sunday lunches. I’ve been ruthless this year and culled a few after trying some new ones that have excelled.

This is still one of the questions I get asked most in my DMs and, despite my dad maintaining that all Sunday lunches are the same, I will continue to die on the hill that they are not. There is a difference and I will hear no more about it.

And because sharing this every October is always running a gauntlet especially in the facebook comments, the annual disclaimers:

• These are my favourites from places I’ve actually eaten. 10+ years of sharing recommendations and I still won’t put somewhere on a list just because it’s popular or because I’ve been asked to.

• If your favourite isn’t here, I haven’t “forgotten” it. I might not have been, or it might just not be one of mine.

• I say North East because these cover Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland and even one in Ripon I travelled an hour for (worth it). We learned long ago what happens if I just say ‘Newcastle’ 😂

• No, it isn’t every corner of the North East. I share the places I go, which is why you won’t find recommendations from some regions. There are plenty of brilliant creators covering those areas much better than I could.

• Nest and Wylam Brewery continue to be recommended to me every single year I just still haven’t personally been as I always revert to the Broad Chare, but they’re always repeat recommendations to me

Anyway, my 2026 Sunday lunch picks. Almost my most controversial post of the year, if it wasn’t for fish n chips post on Good Friday 🫡

Now we’re allowed back on King Eddie’s it was the first place we went for a beaut Saturday sunrise.

Saw a proposal, a group of girls filming a dance together, a lad who conquered his everest by getting in the sea and, from up high, that unmistakable Priory silhouette against a crisp autumn sky.

And if that isn’t the serotonin boost you need for your last weekend off spent at home at the coast, I don’t know what is 🌅

North Tyneside Restaurant Week starts on Monday so I’ve been having a look through all the offers and these are four I’d genuinely make plans around at the coast 🌊

A North Shields afternoon with a look around the businesses in Harbour House, then food at The Uncommon, drinks under the Dome at Spanish City followed by dinner at 1910, a Tynemouth Saturday involving the market, shops and wine at Vineyard 72, or Lola’s for burgers and cocktails.

The actual offers for these places are:

@the_uncommon____ North Shields
2 plates + a drink OR steak frites for £20
Wed–Thurs all day, Fri until 6pm, Sat until 3pm

🥂 @1910spanishcity Whitley Bay
2 courses £25, 3 courses £30
Wed 7th–Sat 10th 5-9pm

🫑 @salthousecullercoats Cullercoats
£25 per head for meat or vegetarian tapas menu min 2 sharing

🍷 @vineyard.72 Tynemouth
Solo grazing boards from £15

🍸 @lolajeanstynemouth Tynemouth
2 courses £20 3 courses £25

There are loads more places taking part across North Tyneside, these are just four I’d build a plan around rather than giving you another massive list of restaurants.

📅 @northtynesiderestaurantweek is 5th–11th October
