Everyone in our churches won’t be able to go into schools, and that’s cool. But there are other ways to make a difference.

A few of our Compassion Christian Downtown students recently tried to swim at the Marriott in Downtown Savannah. The employees explained the hotel’s policy and told them they couldn’t.

Then one of the employees recognized them… @stephisgrand, a Compassion Downtown small group leader. The boys surprisingly recognized her too.

She told her coworkers they are good kids, and another guest was willing to let them swim as part of their group, because Steph knew them.

Later, Jahki sent me this: “She came and vouched for us and told her coworker that we were good kids…she took a risk at her job for us just so we could get in the pool.”

That text said a lot more than he probably realized. But in what other world would Steph have ever known Jakhi, Mason and Jayshaunne?

For years, Steph has driven from Rincon to love our students. She’s served countless hours, and sacrificed her own money so students could attend camps and retreats.

But this is what the Church looks like, and this is why @neighborshood_ exists.

We help churches get into schools, build meaningful relationships with students and educators, and create BRIDGES back into the life of the local church, where students and their families can experience the love of Jesus from the entire local body.

This is Jayleah and her verse is:
Matthew 11:28-30

Now, I love a good story so here goes:
@jeff_dawsey being Jeff went to her school and was promoting student ministry which got her in the door. Then, her conversations with Steph and small group led her to recognize that Jesus can take away her stress of living and her stressed relationships with others. So she decided she wanted to trust Jesus with the parts in life she cannot control. Which, if you didn’t know, Jesus can take it, and he happily does.
So…
We had no idea that she wanted to get baptized until her mom showed up and said, “when is she getting baptized?” So of course we were like lol what?! Then we found out that she talked to her leader @stephisgrand about it, and then talked with her mom and decided to get baptized Sunday! So last minute we got her a shirt and dunked her!

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30 NIV

“Jesus be the name that gets all the glory”
